Yakov Trenin breaks Derek Forbort's orbital bone while prone

Forbort got his medicine. He went looking for Trenin as he was going to the bench for a change away from the play after a shift where Trenin hit Hughes clean which Forbort felt was something he couldn’t let stand in a game that allows body checks.

Forbort takes several swings at Trenin who was in a vulnerable position himself. Roles become reversed and Trenin lands one.

Seek out stupid games, win stupid prizes. Not the first time Forbort has acted like a clown, just received consequences this time.

Only chicken shit, dirty play here was the Nucks player who tries to spear someone from the bench. Par for the course though.

This league needs to decide where it stands on fighting. You can’t have soft penalties for this stuff and then clutch your pearls when a guy gets hurt during a fistfight.
Exactly. You can talk code all you want, but this isn't Marquess of Queensberry here. Particularly when it's a heat of the moment fight that many fans seem to want to stay in the game.

If I am angry and provoked enough to fight someone and they are trying to unload on me, then I'm going to go as hard as I can. And when you have two guys going like that, shit happens.

If the League throws a suspension on this, then that is the dumbest thing possible.

Forbort threw two punches he shouldn’t have, and Trenton threw one he shouldn’t have

Neither worth a suspension in my view
Watching the fight it seems the punches are on extremely different levels. Forbort was still throwing blindly. Trenin clearly recognized the position Forbort was in and made it count. Cowardly and dirty. That is where the NHL needs to draw the line. As well as third man in as we saw in the Kuraly fight vs Leonard the other day.

So you're the kind of guy to kick/punch a guy when he's down and defenseless? Trenin just jumped way up the scumbag list with this move.

If I’m throwing hands and the other guy is still moving, you’re damned right I’m still going to hit him.

This fight is a perfect example of why. Neither of these guys let up when the other fell. That’s how a real fight works, not a bunch of “hey bro you done?” and slapping each other’s butt.

Big issue for me is that the linesman is on Forbort. Why jump on the guy who’s on his back while the other guy is standing? …linesman 53 is slow to jump in.
Hearing that linesmen should be evaluated on how they handle normal hockey fights with respect to a fighting player getting hurt is the sort of thing that highlights the absurdity of condoned but penalized fighting in hockey.

I'm not saying that you're wrong - I'm saying that the context in which your thought arises at all is crazy.

it’s definitely f***ed up, but guys try to do stuff like this all the time and just can’t get a clean shot in. This time, he got a clean shot in.

It’s another thing the league should set an actual standard on with clear wording. There’s so much vague wording to address situations like this but very little set in stone. Just make it an automatic suspension to swing at a guy when one or both players are clearly on the ice.

Some of you people really have no idea about the real world, and just shout from some morally righteous place.

In real time, you could see, Forbort was throwing punches as Trenin was off balance and falling down on all fours. In a matter of a second, less then, he on instinct, defends himself punching the very guy trying to do the EXACT same thing to him less then a second ago.

Unfortunate injury for Forbort, he's a tough guy, and will be just fine. The consequences of his own actions.

The dirtiest thing ever seen in the game? Rick Tocchet "agrees" Rick Tocchet did some insanely dirty shit in his time hitting vulnerable folks.

Get off your high horse.

Real world actions have real world consequences.

Its honestly a hilarious bit to accuse others of being morally righteous who you say “don’t know about the real world”.

Like how do you miss the irony in that statement?

I mean it’s fighting which is already illegal. You can’t get mad if dudes literally attacking each other do something that’s a bit risky. Either ban it entirely and dish out suspensions for eveyr fight or accept there will be injuries sometimes.

Pretty much 1:1 with the Chara Ivanans incident

Real coward shit

The punch that actually broke Ivanans jaw was the one before the dirty one. That’s what leads to Ivanans covering up in the first place.

I don’t want to defend that last punch. It was dirty. But I’m surprised so many people still refer to that fight and don’t know how the injur actually happened.

I was comparing the action of hitting someone while they were down, but I'm not at all surprised a chara fan had to come to the guy's defense

Ya, personally I don’t see why they don’t just use ‘stick attack’ and walk off with a one shot, it’s a fight. Do what you gotta do.

I just said it was a dirty punch but it isn’t the one that caused the injury. That’s coming “to his defense”? It’s an opinion (it was dirty) along with a statement of fact (it didn’t cause the injury).

You’re calling it an identical scenario. I’m saying it isn’t because in the case referred to in this thread, the dirty punch actually caused the injury.

Clearly you’re eager to call me some biased lunkhead but I’m just pointing out a difference. Guys throw dirty punches at the end of fights all the time when other guys are prone . The reason this one is notable is because the guy got a shot in. I’m not justifying it as right nor am I saying what Chara did was right.

There’s an obvious difference between a stick swing and a late punch. Ones not that unlikely when people are in a fist fight lol
