I think he still easily nets a 2nd if retained at 50% - putting his AAV the rest of the year at < $2.6.

I think Henrique is the comp from last year. Past his time as a top six option with declining offensive output but still a vet with great utility and experience who plays an appealing playoff style game who a bevy of teams are gonna love the idea of on their third line.

Henrique got a late 1st (fully retained) as a rental but came with Carrick retained also so hard to directly compare.

I predict Gourde will not be traded for at this deadline as size matters in the playoffs and any team acquiring Gourde for a playoff push ….. I predict will be playoff fodder in the 1 st round……..

So Gourde to Toronto for a first rounder!

Weird take. Gourde is an elite playoff performer with an outstanding track record in the post-season who plays a “bigger” game than most guys who are 6-3. He’s probably one of the best playoff role players of the last decade. He’s highly unlikely to be the clutch scorer he was in his Tampa days but he leaves it all out there and I wouldn’t put it past him joining a playoff team and scoring a couple of grimy goals that really matter in a run.

Gourde from 3-5 years ago.

Current Gourde the last 2 years is 33 year old declining/ diminishing returns / minus 5’9 player on a non playoff team.

Not sure that decline is a massive amount. He's still one of the better takeaway/60 guys in the NHL. I'd be looking deeper than just the points in his case at age 33. His faceoffs are hovering around 50% as well and he's still hits a lot.

His grades in other areas besides points are very solid.

He's underrated still yes. I do agree. A little decline from when he won the cup but fans will dwell on it too much.

I say he returns a 2nd and B prospect with 50% retention.

At 50% retention I would be surprised if Gourde does NOT return a 1st. He has a playoff oriented game and GM's really value that.

Depends on how many centers are available. If the Habs take Evans out by signing him or keeping him for our run and a team like the Preds don't want to trade ROR, what are the list of available centers?

I'm not one to say "never gets a 1st". I'll I will say is not likely but possible.

What Gourde provides is flexibility and versatility. He can play W or C. He gets under his opponents skin. He is defensively very good and can chip in points. Also, he can fill a role across all 4 lines. His role is far from optimal in the top-6 but he is good enough to fill in during a pinch.

The market will surely drive the price but if the player is unique in their skillset, I don't think the competition for that position (C) will make that much of a difference.

I understand his game very well. But my gut says 2nd and B prospect. But that will depend on supply/demand and how many teams want to add him. Even at 50% retention, it's still a decent cap hit for contenders to fit in. I suspect that can be overcome with a contract going the other way.

If Nelson isn't moved then he's the best center on the market and gets a first. If he is then I think it's probably a second but the rest of the rental group this year is so bad that who knows. Henrique from last year is a good comp, Eller to Colorado for a 2nd two years ago is another

Nice use of bevy 👍
