How about night one have Roman beat Rock. Night two have Roman cutting a promo with Heyman out in the ring with his ribs all bandaged up.

The second part is kinda tricky and I am not fully sure how to make it work. Have Cody come out during that promo and the two have a match night two. Cody wins to finish his story and beats Roman clean. The thing is that it’s Roman’s second fight in two nights so he is weaker and more easily defeated. That could work it’s way into the storyline going forward.

Maybe something around the MITB briefcase can get Cody his immediate title shot. Have him start to battle with Priest over the next while. Or better yet have him just take it from Priest’s hands and steal it the second night of WM.

This whole thing is extremely confusing.

Like, you're claiming you did it knowing that it would give Cody the Daniel Bryan "Yes" movement push, which was created because the company was clearly pushing against him... But within three days you're handing out "WeWantCody" signs, acknowledging Rocky Sucks chants, acknowledging that there's backlash, etc. The whole reason DB got as over as he did is because the company was quite obviously against giving him that push. Stuff they did last night made it clear that they're absolutely behind Cody.

The one thing I suppose they may deserve credit for is that, with it being confusing, I have no idea where the f*** they're going with it. What I'm worried about is that they might not know either.

I think the Rock match just cements that they are going to have Roman pass Hogan on the longest title reign charts, and Cody will beat him when we get beyond that number, which I think would put us into the fall so probably Survivor Series if they want to do it at a "Big" PLE, or.... maybe on the first Netflix episode of Raw

Anything that "protects" Roman is an all-time wasted opportunity to create a new giant star. Im not sure anyone has ever needed to look strong in defeat less. It would be the least gratifying way for this interminable story to actually end.*

*Besides The Rock being the one to beat him, obviously.

I think they're co-opting the "movement" to buy time until they think things have calmed down enough and everyone has accepted Rock/Roman is happening. They're just pretending to listen to fans/care about the backlash, but Rock/Roman is happening 100%.

Not sure if they are pretending for the sake of keeping Cody hot and placating crowds, or if they are stringing it along for a bit to see if they have to insert Cody into the match. Either way it's dumb.

The white hot baby face rising to the occasion, winning the rumble, and calling his shot against the top guy for Wrestlemania is a classic WWE story, and one that Cody should've been part of. If it's a triple threat then they've TRIED I guess, but it's not even close to the same impact.

It’ll be Cody/Roman/Rock at Mania

They are absolutely pulling a page from their WM 14 playbook using a true legitimate household name, one of the most famous people on the planet, to put more eyeballs on the guy they want to be "the guy". The difference here is instead of "Special Enforcer", The Rock will be an actual participant.

WM since it's inception has always been about the casual viewer, putting more eyeballs on and creating new fans of the product. Much like Austin and HBK in the spring of 1998, neither Reigns nor Rhodes are at the level of household names and able to get Rhodes to the level they want, they know they have to utilize the fame of The Rock to get him there. The coverage the day after WM when he shares the ring and defeats The Rock will far exceed what it would be if he was only sharing the ring with Roman Reigns. Doesn't matter who he pins or submits. Even right here today, Cody Rhodes is a bigger name than he was a week ago due to his interaction with Dwayne.

Dave also said they very quickly moved a lot of tickets for RAW last night over the weekend off of what happened Friday.

Eyeballs and attention on the product and what is actually going to happen at Mania is high.

So work or shoot, all of this is working for them.

Dave and SRS don't seem to be in agreement on what's going on.

SRS going the discord route that only a select few knew the plan was Rock vs Roman. That it came from Ari and Shapiro and Cody was very much in the dark until last week. He can't explain why they went ahead and let Cody win the Rumble as HHH knew Rumble day that Roman's plans had changed. Seth vs Punk was the WHC plan until Punk got hurt.

Dave on the hand is saying this was 100% a work from start to finish. That it's a worked shoot and they fully expected and manipulated the audience into reacting the way they have. I haven't seen anything to say where this is ultimately going though.

So the true answer is who the f*** knows. Find out Thursday.

It isn't the match in particular. It is the process and how they got there.
I agree and the booking is stupid but I do understand why they want The Rock in the main event. People on the board for WWE couldn't give a shit about Cody's story. Apparently having The Rock vs Roman will make them more in sponsorship money than the entire gate revenue for both sold out nights in Philadelphia. New owners having their first Wrestlemania and they want to cash in as much as they can....

I still absolutely do not buy that Rock would ever agree to knowingly put himself in a position where the fans turned on him.

This isn't quite the same as playing a villain in a movie. He's literally coming off as a backstage politicking douchebag who stole a day to day guy's moment in real life.

They've booked themselves completely into a corner. It's a f***ing mess.

What happens to the other championship match? Does it lead off WM? The womens title match between Rhea and Becky?

I think Seth main events night 1 or Becky/Rhea and then the Roman clusterf*** main events night 2.

I don't think we see Roman doing double duty.

The best theory I’ve heard that kind of fits all the weird choices is that Roman signs the contract to face Rock at Mania…and then Cody officially picks Roman and he’s forced to wrestle on both nights. It would explain why Cody didnt challenge Seth and is still holding his title shot. It would explain why other wrestlers are still talking about coming for Seth’s title. It would explain why they haven’t announced the men’s chamber match yet. If Cody is wrestling Seth…they don’t need a chamber match for his challenger. Punk was supposed to win the chamber according to Meltzer…so it was a planned match in Perth. And Seth has no challenger yet because Cody didn’t do it.

on one hand…I like the idea of someone finally outsmarting Roman and putting his title reign in real peril. He never defends it and never wrestles…and now he has two giant main events back to back.

on the other hand…Cody flat out saying he wasn’t coming for Roman at Mania is just a lie. Which is weird….but everyone would be happy anyway.

My guess is Roman vs Rock on Saturday. Roman vs Cody on Sunday…with Rock running out to take out interference and get a giant pop to cover for his loss the night before and the build that made fans turn on him.

Of course, if they were REALLY crazy they would do all that and Rock would cost Cody instead…and take his place at Roman’s side after Roman beats him for head of the table the night before. Imagine how mad people would be then.

Assuming this wasn't part of some master plan that I can't see just about anybody having the foresight to execute, I still don't see why you can't have Rock come out, say he f***ed up, it's Cody's moment, it's Cody's match, but Rock is gonna ref the match to make sure there's no Bloodline interference.

Maybe advertisers really get that much of a bug in their ass about the difference between Rock wrestling and Rock reffing. I dunno. To me, it's still a Rock appearance in the main event.

But, if your intent the whole time was to do Rock/Roman one on one, we're beating a dead horse here, but they should've just not had Cody win the Rumble.

I would imagine Seth's match opens night 1 and that was the case the moment Punk got hurt.

There isn't really any combo of matches for Seth that should close over the women at this point.

Nuclear heat. I would love it.

But the former scenario is much more likely.
