I think the story is Jimmy really doesn't care about Jey's well being. They made sure we saw him keep walking away as Roman was beating on Jey last night.

It's also not supposed to be a logical plan either. Jimmy did something stupid to try and keep Jey with him, went way too far, and now his brother hates him for it.
