WTH is wrong with the Sedins?

They look old and predictable this year!

1 point in 4 games!!!!!!!!!

They gave the puck up at least 5 times last night in the Hawk zone and they absolutely refuse to shoot the damn puck, when they have a chance.

They must have had 4 or 5 great chances in the slot and they were looking to pass to someone instead.

This is a problem with the entire team though, and the fact that there are never any bodies in front of the net...........why?

I don't like the Sedins, especially their play during the playoffs. However, the season is just 8 games old and they haven't played in a while, i bet their play will gets better as the season progressed.

Well, until the playoffs anyways.

Sedins played real well against Chicago, they were holding the puck and they were engaged physically, had some dominant shifts.

LOL.....oh please!

We're talking about millionaires who are playing a game !

They're getting paid an exaggerated amount of money to stay in shape and entertain people.

You're damn right I expect more out of the 2 supposed best players the Canucks have...cause if this is it,then we can kiss the season goodbye.

And don't start that it's only 8 games,that BS...........

how is that BS? You look like you've been around here awhile, so it surprising me that you're commenting like someone new to the game. Were you following hockey during the last lockout? You do realize that it takes time for a lot of players to get going - especially vets, who've been sitting out a long time.

Remember the 95 lockout? Not sure how old you are, so you may not have been around back then, or following hockey then, but it's a common theme that vets struggle trying to come back after a short lockout and back into the season, and the Sedins aren't the only ones this year....

Giroux - 90+ points last year, as 4 pts after 8 games and has heard constant criticism from Flyers fans.

Perry, coming off a Hart season has 1 goal in 6 games...

Kessel has yet to score a goal this year.

Ovechkin 2 goals and 3 pts in 8 games.

Mike Richards - 2 assists and a -5 in 6 games

Cammarelli and Iginla - 13+ mill combined and zero goals this year!

and those are just the forwards struggling with production. There are plenty of dmen around the league playing some horrible hockey right now... and there are plenty of goalies as well that look like AHLers right now.

None of this should be a surprise though.... when you're out for that long without hockey, it takes time to get back into game shape. We saw it first hand in 95... we're seeing it again now.

Honestly, I'm almost curious if I'd prefer the lockout to be back on and just watch and discuss non-NHL hockey. The shift change on this site has been unbelievable since the NHL came back.

It's a weird season and weird **** is happening. Let's all read into it as though it was February of a normal year!

The problem is, they've been sub par in the second half of the season last year too. It's concerning but you shouldn't be too concerned.

The 'problem' is that they had two unbelievable seasons playing fast paced hockey on a team clicking on all cylinders and now people expect their Art Ross form every single. Our fans have major problems with expectations.

Henrik is noticeably slower than Daniel this year. Makes Daniel look like Sidney Crosby fast

lets be serious here guys, they are at the twilight end of the peak of their careers...

Dude, I kinda feel you're offbase, here. The great thing about the Sedins is I think they'll be 60-70 pt getters at worse until they're both 38-40.

There game isn't built on speed, it's built on stick handling and quick thinking. They might not be our 1st line a few years from now, but they'll be an asset to this club for a long while, imo.

I am hoping we aren't seeing residual effects of Daniel's concussion. Some guys don't really come back from a concussion.

The Sedins are a year older and they were never really very fast skaters. A lot of the take aways we have been seeing are speed related. Pylon to pylon passes are easy to anticipate and intercept. This was/is inevitable. If the Sedins have lost a step their numbers will plummet.

Here's the thing, the Sedins do not need the money. If Daniel doesn't feel right, I doubt Henrik battles on without him. It's possible the Canucks lose both in one off-season. Perhaps as soon as this off-season! What would that do to the Canuck's window?

The PP has been on the downslide since Jan. of last season.

The coaches really need to try something new with the powerplay. I completely disagree with this thread and the idea that a slow start for the Sedins is a reason to panic but the powerplay has been a problem for a while now.

how many guys actually have their career significantly impacted after a first concussion? I mean as a rough percentage of guys who have had a concussion.

Dont need to be "fast skaters" in fact that probably works to their advantage that their career has been made off brains and other skills that dont decline as rapidly.

A player who makes his name of his skating is toast once thats gone if he has nothing else.

I certainly dont see the sedins becoming stupider with age.

The last several years in a row we've started terribly, peaked mid season, and then come back to earth for the playoffs.

The slow start is par for the course, but even moreso I don't care if they're a bit slower now (although that line is still producing well) if they are able to peak at the end of season into the playoffs.

Lol, hopefully we our mid season peak will fall into the playoffs this year :).

 I actually laughed aloud and pretty hard at this.

I guess you don't play hockey ... or ever have played a sport competitively. Or traveled constantly for your job.

Suddenly you're so entitled to have them work hard for you because the world owes you something.

I'm sure you have worked much harder than they did their whole lives, and only to entertain others. I apologize on behalf of the Sedins and everyone that has disappointed you.

Henrik needs to shoot more. A lot more.

Or they just need to switch jerseys to fool opposition.

I think this as well, I'm not going to argue against thous that say they are starting to decline, only time will tell. but if I was going to guess, I'd say that there decline will be a long granule one, not a steep fall of the earth. They have years of effective hockey in them.

The Sedin's just need to get into game shape. They are almost there, and will be back to their normal 70 to 80 point pace.

To old? That is funny. I really expect the Sedins to be able to perform at a high level until their late thirties. They took a long time to mature, and they will be able to play longer then a Nolan for example who was NHL ready at 18.

They also need a mobile defensive leader on the blueline, to put up Art Ross numbers. And we haven't replaced that since we gave away Ehrhoff.

Serious question for those around the Canucks internet scene longer than me.

Did the fanbase ever turn on Trevor Linden? He definitely had some periods of spotty play, and I wonder if he was always given a pass. The reason I ask is you'd think if anyone gets a pass on a slow start it's the Twins. They are one season removed from back-to-back Art Ross trophies.

REAL TALK:
The Sedins' point production will improve.
Kassian's goal production will decline.
Schneider's stats will get better.
Luongo's stats will get worse (a little, anyway).

These are all still the same players they were last year. They didn't magically lose talent. Have a little faith in your team, and ride it out instead of leaping right off the bandwagon.

Linden's heyday preceded hockey fandom migrating onto the net. But back in the day, there was a lot of comparison between him and Mike Modano. They were different types of players and had different personalities but they were taken 1-2 in their draft. Modano was off the board when the Canucks took Linden but that didn't stop the chatter in the media or on the radio talk shows.

He scored 2 goals in the biggest game of his career so he'll always get a pass from me.

I dont ever recall Linden having periods of spotty play. Any more than was normal.

What was different about now and then was Linden came in at the height of some of the Canucks lowest lows. Canucks of the mid and late 80s were absolute garbage.

Sedins came in after a decade-ish of reasonable success that had seen the likes of Linden, Bure etc

Expectations have always been much higher for Sedins than Linden.
