Liked Little on the wing. Kane looked very good. Buff and Enstrom were fun to watch. Nice to get a win. The Mark of Jokinen just destroyed Ribiero mentally. Had to watch it a couple of times. I can see how the ref missed it.
Thorburn fight was a good one.

only saw most of the second and half the third period, but I was impressed with what I saw. Especially Kane. ON that one play where Kane banked the puck off the board past the Capital's defenseman and to himself, the old Kane would have ignored Wheeler and skated around the net and tried the wraparound which works 1/100 times. The new Kane, who we saw tonight, recognized Wheeler was in a prime position to score with the Caps' goalie focusing on him(Kane) and made a beauty pass for the easy goal.

I hope we see more of this new Kane this season.:)
Agree wholeheartedly.
I have not had a chance to watch much of the last couple of games, but it seems the players I have been hardest on--Kane, Pavelec and Buff--have been our brightest lights...and I've never been happier being wrong.
Have you looked at Pavelec's GAA and SV%--they're awesome. Now, the question is, can he keep it up (asked Clitsome)?:)

****ing eh!!

That's the Jets I was expecting with these lines...
Yes, a lot of our dominance had to do with the poor play of the Caps, but you can see how having forward depth made it harder to match against us away and gave us extra legs for the back-to-backs.

No one is perfect, but I have no real complaints on anyone this game.

I've been hard on Pavs but it's mostly because I know he has it in him. It is far too early to call anything but there have been signs of improvement... the consistency will hopefully come.

keep it up and when Bogo gets back... :)

Kane's falling apart

only 3 SOG, 2 less than Ladd, Little and Jokinen

only 1G and 1A

he keeps passing it instead of shooting

I wish he had come to practice 3 days early instead of two... what a slacker

Yea Kane has been really good So far this season he has had a very high compete level and although he is not a natural passer yet his head is up more now and he is taking a look and trying. If he sticks with it it will open things up allot more for his shot. anyone notice he is more patient and actually pretty effective on the cycle aspect of the game and that really works well with Jokinen and Wheeler.

Last night we had 4 lines who could cycle and board battle and that is a beautiful thing especially on the road.

Think all the lines performed pretty well.. especially second line.

Pavelec is getting his confidence back pretty nicely.. rock solid performance by him

Pavelec has bounced back good since the Ottawa game. Now lets see if hes ready to take it to the next level. A solid performance vs Pittsburgh friday will do it!

I'm scared of Friday's game. Our Jets need to be really hard on the forecheck, and it's going to be difficult to dedicate 2 lines to shutting down Malkin's and Crosby's lines. I think we're more positionally sound than Philly, but seeing them spank NYR surprised me.

Toby has been lights out this season.....dare I say pocket Lidstrom ;)

Seriously though I think this is the guy the Thrasher Fans were selling us on when we got the team.

2 road games in and we are exercising some deamons from last season already.

IMO Toby will gradually become more of a fan favorite as people see what he does on the ice, not by being told what he does on the ice.

yah. good one. :shakehead

Maybe he could have gotten a hatty against Ottawa. :sarcasm: I resisted the urge to highlite all the references Noel made over the past week to "line chemistry" and how his guys just needed "a bit of time" to get to know one another. I'll also point out that he didn't come to practice early at all. :)

But like I always said in that whole other discussion - if Kane is scoring I'm happy.

GREAT WIN FOR THE GOOD GUYS!!! (Kane included)

Great team effort last night. Kane is playing lights out and showing a glimse of how good he can be when he plays a team game. I love wins but to me compete is as important, and we have seen a team willing to compete. Happy camper I am.

There are 3 goaltenders right now with 3 games played: Pacs, Howard and Bryz.

Pavelec leads the league in shots faced (98) and TOI.

He's at 0.929% (Bryz: 0.902 and Howard: 0.892)
He has 2.27 GAA (Bryz: 3.03 Howard: 3.64)

That doesn't say much, especially if you think about how bad the Flyers and Red Wings played in those 3 games in front of Bryz and Howard.

Nevertheless, I think we can be very pleased with Pavs performances right now. The first game was a bit shaky (so was our D at all). In Boston, he started a bit shaky but found his game shot after shot and looked very good at the end. In Washington yesterday, he looked sharp from the beginning and never looked like he could be a factor for the Jets to loose this game.

He actually seemed CALM! yesterday. He had good positioning and didn't need to overplay. Yes, calm and settled. And CALMNESS is not really what Ondrej Pavelec is known for. I say start him against Pittsburgh and he could get us a win against the Pens. Give Montoya the Islanders on sunday, it's his former team and I'm sure he'd be pumped up.

Pavs career numbers against the Pens are kind a bad, but so were they against the Bruins and he still played good. Maybe,... maybe... Pavelec can turn his game around this year, regarding consistency and giving the Jets a good chance to win on a daily basis (especially on the road). To me, he looks like he finally can reach out to his potential this year. I watched him since coming up from the Chicago Wolves to Atlanta and he never gave me this feeling. He played good and sometimes he played terrific but I never had the feeling he'll perform like a legit starting playoff goaltender.

IF he is for real... we're a playoff team, no question about it.

Kane was AMAZING yesterday AND against the Bruins. He was our best forward in both games, IMHO. He never stopped skating and being aggressive and being a pest for the defenders. But not only that, he looked like an all around hockey player, too. He had his head up and didn't only focus on going straight to the net and that made him see his teammates around him (Oh, hi there Mr. Olli Jokinen).

I have to say I'm impressed with Paul Postma, too. He wasn't perfect and had some not so good plays, but you can really really see what he does very good: Getting the ****ing pucks on the ****ing net.
There is nobody on our blue line who knows to do it like him. It's not always a hard to handle slapshot or a threat to score, but it doesn't have to be. He produces rebounds and that could be a very nice weapon in every game. I expect him to stay on the roster for the most time of the season. It's such a shame Paul Postma isn't LH :(

Ladd was way way better yesterday as in the first 2 games. Little just looks like a perfect fit for his line on the wing.

Did someone mention Nikolai Antropov? Did someone mention how unbeatable he looks behind the goal and against the boards? Seriously, he was one of our best players in those three games. He's effective and does what he does. I'm pretty sure most people STILL didn't see him. Most people still thought "What's Antropov doing with Little and Ladd on the 2nd line?" yesterday. And most people still didn't see what Nik Antropov brings on the ice.

Burmistrov is another "not flashy but a machine on the ice" player. He's still without a point... and I actually have no idea why. Burmi is a beast going backwards. He will be a hell of a PK-player. Book it. He skates, he dekes, he speeds up or slows down the game. He still doesn't shoot enough but that's probably his only weakness left right now. Man, I'm impressed Burmi. I mean... he isn't even afraid to mess with Chara... any other questions?

The only player I'm a little bit disappointed with is Alexei Ponikarovsky. Well... he plays ok I'd say. But that's it right now. I'd place him even behind Thorburn and Wright (yesterday at least). He's a new face and maybe he'll need a couple of more games to buy into the system and roster. We'll see.

Scheifele ... IDK. I'm still not 100% sure that we should keep him here. I really want to wait the games vs. PIT and NYI and then make my opinion about him. He played good, but not thaaaat good. No problem, take your time kid and if you have to, go get that ****ing memorial cup and light it up next year. Even though I think we could use him on the roster, being a scoring forward or not. He adds enough to our game to use him in sheltered minutes and maybe bench him now and then to give him a rest.

Wirght ... I liked what I see. Too early to give a clear statement, but I was pleased yesterday.

Slater, Thorburn and Jokinen did their job and I was pleased. Jokinen has more upside than he showed and the points will come (he already looks like a good fitting piece so it's just a matter of time).

Stuart and Hainsey have been Stuart and Hainsey. Reliable bottom pairing defenders... even though they didn't play the bottom pair... I guess that means they played solid?

Clitsome ... I think he did what he can and that's all right. He will never be more than he showed in that 3 games. He was shaky in the first one (so was Postma).

*edit*

The last remark: We look good on FO.

Yesterday, only Burmistrov was under 50% in the dot.

Overall we're at 51.3% and have the 11th best percentage.

I have one hope stemming from this game, and that is I hope this game defines us. I hope it defines us not only from this point forward in our season, but for years to come. Each and every player should have went in the room after the game thinking and saying "that is how we play. If we play like that every game we can go toe-to-toe with any team in the league. If anyone doesn't feel like putting in the effort like we did tonight, take off the jersey and don't bother stepping on the ice." This game should be how the Winnipeg Jets play. Every. Single. Game. I want that type of intensity and effort to be engraved when a player puts on the Jets jersey.

There is no reason each and every player in that room cannot put the Jets jersey on for each game and play like that. The bar should be set. Anything less effort wise is failure. That is what I would be preaching to the team.

There is one thing you as a player can always control, and that is your effort. And if each player puts in the effort we saw last night, there is no good reason why this team and group cannot establish themselves as a strong team in this league.

For me, the bar is set because we've seen how this team can play as a group, we've seen the effort they can give, and we've seen the results it can bring. Though it has been 2 games we've displayed this effort and intensity, I have all the belief in the world that if we put forth efforts like this, we can dance with any team in the league and at least be in the game until the final buzzer. Sure the Caps maybe had an off night. Was that because of their own doing or was that because of how we played? Likely a bit of both, but I will say both teams began the game skating very, very hard, hitting and finishing their checks, etc. Both teams showed up ready to play, but we kept at it.

The bar is set for me. Anything less effort wise from this point out will be considered unacceptable. We'll have our off nights, I understand, but 3/4 of the time I expect the effort and intensity in which was displayed by our team last night (and in the Boston game as well).

(...)

Apparently, Jokinen was overhead by media heading into the dressing room shouting "THAT'S what it feels like to win a tough back to back on the road!", or something to that effect.

Agree wholeheartedly with your post regarding effort, etc. An example of a team that typically surpasses their skill level is Pheonix - between Tippet's coaching, sticking to their game plan, and almost always putting in a consitent effort, we all saw how far you can go based on where they ended up last year.

Futher to your comments: Little did an interview where he said that they simply let it get into their head that these road games and back to backs were somehow more difficult than the home game (which they are, but...). Talked a lot about mindset. It's obvious that there's a lot of chatter going on about how to fix the mental aspect of their game.

This. So much this.

Can't recall many Jets games (especially not road games) where they took it to a team like that. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

I have to say, waking up at 5AM wasn't so tough when I got to start the day with this game. It had the same feeling as the Boston game with the hustle, but this game actually had some skill involved too.

Good to see Toby have a game like that too. My main concern right now (if the team keep playing like this) is that if Toby actually have a bad game, we are in trouble.

A friend texted me during the game and said simply, "they are playing BIG". It's true, even small guys like Slater and Burmi are playing big. It appears as if adding size and just that much more talent has made everyone play bigger and feel more confident.

Indeed, I agree. I love how big we are playing, and I love our forward depth right from line 1 to 4. Just watching this team this year, you can just feel how much bigger we are and how much more forward depth we have. Those 2 things have really jumped out at me these last 2 games.

And, I love that Jimmy Slater dropped the mitts even if he really didn't have to near the end of the 2nd period. We're showing team toughness by doing that. I love a team that even if we're up 3-4 goals and momentum is in our hands, we'll still go you, we're confident in our abilities and not afraid of giving you momentum. And props to Thorburn for going Hendricks later in the game. Team toughness. I love it.

On top of how we've played the last two games, I am stoked to see Peluso. If this kid can play the way we want and need him to - skate, hit, finish his checks, be responsible defensively, fight, be a spark plug out there... that will be perfect and go hand in hand with how we need to do things.

Byfuglien's conditioning looks really good. He's still jumping up in the play a lot and anyone who expected otherwise is crazy, but you can see he hurries back more this year and doesn't look winded by the end of his shifts.

Boy oh boy the Caps thread is really heating up. They're in "**** that, let's rebuild NOW!" mode already :D

If the Jets had lost, this thread would have been about whether we wanted Jones or McKinnon
