There are 3 goaltenders right now with 3 games played: Pacs, Howard and Bryz.
Pavelec leads the league in shots faced (98) and TOI.
He's at 0.929% (Bryz: 0.902 and Howard: 0.892)
He has 2.27 GAA (Bryz: 3.03 Howard: 3.64)
That doesn't say much, especially if you think about how bad the Flyers and Red Wings played in those 3 games in front of Bryz and Howard.
Nevertheless, I think we can be very pleased with Pavs performances right now. The first game was a bit shaky (so was our D at all). In Boston, he started a bit shaky but found his game shot after shot and looked very good at the end. In Washington yesterday, he looked sharp from the beginning and never looked like he could be a factor for the Jets to loose this game.
He actually seemed CALM! yesterday. He had good positioning and didn't need to overplay. Yes, calm and settled. And CALMNESS is not really what Ondrej Pavelec is known for. I say start him against Pittsburgh and he could get us a win against the Pens. Give Montoya the Islanders on sunday, it's his former team and I'm sure he'd be pumped up.
Pavs career numbers against the Pens are kind a bad, but so were they against the Bruins and he still played good. Maybe,... maybe... Pavelec can turn his game around this year, regarding consistency and giving the Jets a good chance to win on a daily basis (especially on the road). To me, he looks like he finally can reach out to his potential this year. I watched him since coming up from the Chicago Wolves to Atlanta and he never gave me this feeling. He played good and sometimes he played terrific but I never had the feeling he'll perform like a legit starting playoff goaltender.
IF he is for real... we're a playoff team, no question about it.
Kane was AMAZING yesterday AND against the Bruins. He was our best forward in both games, IMHO. He never stopped skating and being aggressive and being a pest for the defenders. But not only that, he looked like an all around hockey player, too. He had his head up and didn't only focus on going straight to the net and that made him see his teammates around him (Oh, hi there Mr. Olli Jokinen).
I have to say I'm impressed with Paul Postma, too. He wasn't perfect and had some not so good plays, but you can really really see what he does very good: Getting the ****ing pucks on the ****ing net.
There is nobody on our blue line who knows to do it like him. It's not always a hard to handle slapshot or a threat to score, but it doesn't have to be. He produces rebounds and that could be a very nice weapon in every game. I expect him to stay on the roster for the most time of the season. It's such a shame Paul Postma isn't LH
Ladd was way way better yesterday as in the first 2 games. Little just looks like a perfect fit for his line on the wing.
Did someone mention Nikolai Antropov? Did someone mention how unbeatable he looks behind the goal and against the boards? Seriously, he was one of our best players in those three games. He's effective and does what he does. I'm pretty sure most people STILL didn't see him. Most people still thought "What's Antropov doing with Little and Ladd on the 2nd line?" yesterday. And most people still didn't see what Nik Antropov brings on the ice.
Burmistrov is another "not flashy but a machine on the ice" player. He's still without a point... and I actually have no idea why. Burmi is a beast going backwards. He will be a hell of a PK-player. Book it. He skates, he dekes, he speeds up or slows down the game. He still doesn't shoot enough but that's probably his only weakness left right now. Man, I'm impressed Burmi. I mean... he isn't even afraid to mess with Chara... any other questions?
The only player I'm a little bit disappointed with is Alexei Ponikarovsky. Well... he plays ok I'd say. But that's it right now. I'd place him even behind Thorburn and Wright (yesterday at least). He's a new face and maybe he'll need a couple of more games to buy into the system and roster. We'll see.
Scheifele ... IDK. I'm still not 100% sure that we should keep him here. I really want to wait the games vs. PIT and NYI and then make my opinion about him. He played good, but not thaaaat good. No problem, take your time kid and if you have to, go get that ****ing memorial cup and light it up next year. Even though I think we could use him on the roster, being a scoring forward or not. He adds enough to our game to use him in sheltered minutes and maybe bench him now and then to give him a rest.
Wirght ... I liked what I see. Too early to give a clear statement, but I was pleased yesterday.
Slater, Thorburn and Jokinen did their job and I was pleased. Jokinen has more upside than he showed and the points will come (he already looks like a good fitting piece so it's just a matter of time).
Stuart and Hainsey have been Stuart and Hainsey. Reliable bottom pairing defenders... even though they didn't play the bottom pair... I guess that means they played solid?
Clitsome ... I think he did what he can and that's all right. He will never be more than he showed in that 3 games. He was shaky in the first one (so was Postma).
*edit*
The last remark: We look good on FO.
Yesterday, only Burmistrov was under 50% in the dot.
Overall we're at 51.3% and have the 11th best percentage.
