Panarin has another year on his contract, and last season was his most productive.
Ah true wasnt aware he had another year

This year hes at 36 in 30 so he has slowed down and is in his early 30s

Next year is likely OVs last year in the NHL. The caps should hold Leonard who is a very high end prospect and can be a key piece for them to remain comprtitive in the post OV era

Caps walk away. Leonard is the highest end prospect they've had in the system in over a decade due to years of regular season success. We're already looking like a legitimate contender this year as is. Washington has retooled correctly to give Ovi a couple more shots before he hangs it up. They've done all that at the cost of not sacrificing any futures. I can't see them deviating from the plan. They've been very forthright about said plan and typically stick to their guns.
Id say pretty similar prospect to Vrana

Vrana had injuries, and other concerns/things impact him but he was a super skilled propsect and should have been a core player right now for the Caps.

Leonard, Parascak, & Miroshnechenko should be off the table for the caps imo

The 2025 1st , 2025 2nd (if they have one) Andrew Cristall & Cole Hutson should be used to add if the Caps try to go for it this year to win another cup

Not that it makes the most sense but you can also justify a Panarin deal with the ovi record chase. Panarin is elite at distributing the puck for a one timer in the ovi office. Like unreal elite. Still feels like nyr needs to help the trade concept more to get a Leonard type return but I would think that both parties could be motivated for different reasons. Regardless it is so unlikely.

Caps wouldn’t be interested IMO, but I’m also surprised the Rangers would target a winger with their most valuable trade chip, when top 6 center and defense seem like positions of particular need.

There isn't a goddamned chance the Capitals trade Ryan Leonard.

Panarin's going to be be a free agent again in July 2026, either walking away or requiring a massive percentage of the cap to retain. Neither is appealing. A can't miss gem at the start of his career for short-term gain? f*** that all day long.

Setting all that aside, the Rangers are in a pickle. Why would any Metro team help them get out of it? Let them sink like a stone.

Plus, of course, he doesn't want to leave and doesn't have to leave if he doesn't want to leave. Panarin's where he wants to be and has that NMC to make sure it happens.

Pass from Caps. Leonard isn't available.

it's nothing impossible for the caps after the Forsberg deal...

Didn't the Rangers trade peak Ryan McDonagh and JT Miller for Libor Hajek and stuff?

Neither of these teams have the same GM's they had back in those days so it's irrelevant.
