Is this actually a win win trade?
Yeah, a lot of guys in their 20s party hard, but there aren't a ton of high-profile players who were jettisoned out of two different organizations because of substance abuse issues, like Richards.Guys you couldn't win with? The dudes who lead their team to the finals a year before their moronic GM jettisoned them? I dont recall people saying things like that about them.
Character problems was the Philly media doing their job of tearing down former players. Sure they partied a lot, but they still showed up to every game and performed great. What a shocker story, players in their mid 20s party a lot.
Richards, Justin Williams and Carter were not defective by any means.
Richards and Carter were literally blamed for everything that was wrong with the flyers, withe their partying and general way of doing things. they still had good numbers in philly but the GM Rather be done with them and change the culture. I also thought there were other players like stoll that contributed to the kings cups but had run out of favor on previous teams. Gaborik was kind of thought to be headed down the washed direction before turning it around in LA. Regehr wa near the tail end and wasnt thought to have much left. The kings gave all those players another chance and got 2 cups for it. yea they had a good young core but stillLike who?
Kopitar, Brown, Doughty and Quick were all drafted by them.
Richards, Justin Williams and Carter were not defective by any means.
this is pretty much what i was trying to say. maybe defective wasnt the right word but more, players that had gone sideways for one reason or another. Richards and Carter were literally cast out of philly. obviously with pld it is thought to have been a similar character problem. butall the caps aquired this off season fit in the category of given up on, outside of roy.Yeah a lot of those guys were 'flawed'
Richards and Carter Dry Island, Carter's CBJ pouting
Penner...well to be fair everyone was right about him loafing, but he still had his moments
Mitchell was coming off injuries/major concussion
Scuderi people had worries about him holding up on a top pairing for 4 years
Stoll, Greene weren't seen as 'difference makers' and Kings gave up tons of production in Visnovsky
Regehr was injured and seen as damaged goods
Williams was seen as injury prone, had two major knee injuries basically back to back
Gaborik was injury ravaged and seen as cooked
Muzzin wasn't seen as top-pairing material and had a major back recovery (unless you didn't like Doughty then Muzzin/McNabb/Forbort were the reasons Doughty was actually good)
Some didn't work, like Simon Gagne, who could never recover form
hell even f***ing Jeff Schultz had a moment in the sun and the best stanley cup photo ever haha
