Proposal: WPG-PIT (Heinola)

Heinola probably isn’t going to get his shot in Winnipeg, although he has lots of potential if he figures it out. I’d assume Chevy would trade him with his permission. He’s not the type of player that we would trade for a rental, and Pittsburgh doesn’t have a ton that interests Winnipeg, unfortunately.

Yeah I’d like to flip a pick for him but not sure WPG cares about that. Seems destined to be a throw-in piece of a bigger trade.

I'm not sure I see the point of adding Heinola after they just claimed Kolya off waivers. They seem kinda redundant and both fit the "reclamation project LD" idea.

I'm pretty fine with POJ, Kolya and Graves as their LD for the rest of the year.
Because I like the player a lot.

A waiver claim, POJ and Graves are no reason not to add another scratch off lottery ticket, especially one with Heinola’s talent level. I’d love to see what he is if given some rope in a decent role (I.e. Gryzelcyk’s spot).

I'm not sure Heinola is much better than a waiver claim caliber player tbh. I don't see much differentiating him and Kolya from what I can tell.

I'm not a no on the idea because they need as many dart throws as possible, but I wouldn't bother spending anything worthwhile to add him either. I'd do Glass for him as mentioned above but that's about it.

something around cody glass? idk what would make sense from the pens
I guess it really comes down to what WPG is looking for here for their playoff run, but I'd trade Glass for a lotto ticket. Pens have used him as a utility forward up and down the lineup but he's never really stuck anywhere to make me think he's a long term fit here. I'd also do a swap for someone like Poulin if that interested you.

I like the original idea a lot.

I think the nhl is a tough business and there are a lot of young guys who miss chunks of or entire early years due to injury.

I’m not sure what opportunity is being held from Hienola…he wasn’t available due to injury and he’s only 24.

The guy is getting minutes now.

I’m not so sure I love Elliott’s take on this. I think the jets may show more patience. Really helpful for the guys future if he can finish the season healthy.

I'd probably put this sort of deal on ice for the Penguins for now...at least, until they find out a little bit more about what they've picked up in Kolyachonok.

He's not getting minutes now though. He hasn't played since mid January and is basically the Jets 8th defenseman this season. At this rate the only way he wouldn't finish the season healthy is if he were to fall down the stairs on the way to the press box.

It might not be Pittsburgh but I think the guy could easily crack the roster and help a lot of teams in the league. Hopefully he gets moved and the Jets get a pick or another player that could use a fresh start in return.

You certainly hope that everybody is healthy…I feel Hienola is in an appropriate slot on the depth chart. He’s one moment away from full time work. I hadn’t noticed he had been scratched so much recently, which isn’t good of course, but…he missed so much.

I feel if this situation had been going for a year, or years, it’s absolutely a thing…but the guy missed a whole year then missed the start of this one. It’s probably a normal expectation that he isn’t where he needs to be due to the missed time. The team shouldn’t have to eject him in circumstances like this imo. The team is poised for a playoff run and history shows the guy will most assuredly get some quality icetime as the year progresses.

As a Jets fan, I'd be all over bringing Cody Glass home to Winnipeg! A big right shot forward (with speed?) that can play centre, even if he is a bit of a project.
I'd happily trade young LD Heinola, who I think will flourish out of Winnipeg.

I don't see Heinola getting a shot with PIT.

He's also likely hitting the waiver wire at some point in the next 18 months if you want him.
He will probably be a throw in on any trade the Jets (potentially) make if it needs to happen before the trade deadline. The Jets are at the roster limit and if they need to jump on a legit LD or 2C before the TDL someone has to go on waivers. Last year it cost Chisholm on waivers to get Monahan.

Kind of surprised most Pens fans are pooh-poohing this idea. I like it as a reclamation project that shouldn’t cost anything of note.

There’s no reason a guy like POJ, or Graves despite his cap hit, should dress over a player who may have some upside down the stretch run.

...that Glass isn't half-full, it's shattered...
