I thought Nylander and Matthews were just as good or better, but they're play drivers in a different way.

Marner was pretty terrible though

Marner did not look good last year against Columbus particularly game #1 and he sure didn't look very good in this years series Game #1 either.

It's not for lack of ice time as he gets usually the most among the forwards, nor opportunity playing with Matthews, and he can't have anything against his coach Keefe as he openly complained about past coaching issue he was offended by.

He hasn't registered a goal under Keefe and only has 4 assists in 6 playoff game, which likely contributed heavily to the Leafs 2W-4L record.

This might sound odd but I though Marner's bets playoff series were when he was 19 & 20 years in his 1st couple playoffs against Washington and Boston, under a coach he had issues with and the older he gets his playoff performances seem to be declining and not ascending. His regular season stats go up, but his playoff stats and play go down with each passing year.

its one game...and he created the most chances on our team, just couldnt finish em off. You cant mention his playoff performance this year after one game...

This isn't the first time we've seen Marner look shell shocked in the opener of a series. It's like he needs a full 60 to figure out the pace and how to navigate the ice when guys are trying to run him through the boards. But it won't last. We've also seen him diving to block shots near the end of a game, and pushing the pace in a playoff series too. I don't have a good excuse for a player of his caliber to start like he did and has...but I think we see a much different Marner tonight. Never want to see anyone hurt the way JT was, but there's been lots of people here advocating for either Matthews, or Marner to be Captain when we were selecting one. Matthews was great last night, and Mitch needs to match that. The Kids get the chance to be the leaders with JT out right now. Wanna see that mentality from our star players tonight

Marner suffers from trying to do too much. Simplify your games and take what the other team gives you.

Stop effing over- passing. On a 2-1 go in and blow one past Price’s ear.

He took a pretty good shot going in with Nylander 2 on 1.

Little higher and it's in.

Story of the Leafs playoffs last 6 games.

Chances have been there, NO ONE is finishing.

I still am confident when the dam breaks, and the frustration dissipates they will start putting up 4 or 5.

Thought I would bring this back to the top. I asked the question before the start because I was worried about compete. Most replied no problem we are ready. Now in a do or die situation it is the most pressing question. If they COMPETE for 60 minutes they should win 40 minutes wont be enough. Are they hungry enough? I say yes.

OP does not sound so stupid now eh? Anyone man enough to apologize for treating him like shit?

Thanks Bluelines, probably be crickets cause its tough for people, especially on these types of sites to admit they were wrong because everyone is an expert in their mind, particularly the millennial types.

I say no, based on the performance of the last 2 games. Recency bias. Also, this core is 0-7 in series clinching games. So until they do it, I don't believe they can. Hope they prove you right!

Montreal is the worst of the worst when it comes to teams in the playoffs and Toronto is struggling

Tampa is faster, more skill, better defensively and has a better goalie then Montreal
Boston is better physically, better defensively, can score, and can score on PP compared to Montreal

Can Toronto beat any of these teams? From what I've seen, not even close

delusional goofheads with not enough going for them in life so they ignore all history and condescendingly talk down anyone who is a little sceptical even though they have every reason to be. The same people who jump up and down at the tiniest success are the same ones calling for rebuilds after every series loss

Bro against the fukking Habs. If we need 7 games against the worst team in the playoffs who lost more than half their regular season games we’re not good enough
The Canadians have proven to be a very good team. They have pushed us to seven games.

we can't compete with big boys

In our conference alone
Boston
TB
Carolina
Islanders
Florida ( Quennville has that team set straight )

Don't see us getting a playoff win with this team in the near future

Watch Colorado incredible core and team we can only dream

When have they shown themselves to be a good team? They didn’t push it to 7, they were brought along by the Leafs half assed playoff approach.
