I thought Nylander and Matthews were just as good or better, but they're play drivers in a different way.
Marner was pretty terrible though
Marner did not look good last year against Columbus particularly game #1 and he sure didn't look very good in this years series Game #1 either.
It's not for lack of ice time as he gets usually the most among the forwards, nor opportunity playing with Matthews, and he can't have anything against his coach Keefe as he openly complained about past coaching issue he was offended by.
He hasn't registered a goal under Keefe and only has 4 assists in 6 playoff game, which likely contributed heavily to the Leafs 2W-4L record.
This might sound odd but I though Marner's bets playoff series were when he was 19 & 20 years in his 1st couple playoffs against Washington and Boston, under a coach he had issues with and the older he gets his playoff performances seem to be declining and not ascending. His regular season stats go up, but his playoff stats and play go down with each passing year.
