3 years ago, during the regular season, Sergei Bobrovsky was being outplayed by a 21 yr old Spencer Knight. The question at that time might have been “can you win the cup with a $10 million back up?”

Apparently that answer is yes x 2. Sir Gay is 20 minutes from his 2nd cup and Spencer Knight may have spent more time in the player assistance program than on the ice, and is now a Blackhawk.

Point being, Bob’s play has actually wavered a bit while being the highest paid goalie and has found a way to win (likely) 2 and go to the finals 3 years in a row. McDavid has never wavered in terms of being the best player in the game. Obviously there have been moments you could argue MacK/Kuch/Drai/AM are better, but at no point could you suggest McDavid fell out of the top 5, let alone being the top dog most consistently.

So ya, you can win a cup with him. Just need to build the right team around him. Oil are close, but we just sat a $4 mil veteran to play a $3 mil veteran. Hindsight is 20/20, but some poor choices were made last season.

I do think he's a guy that lets pressure get to him a bit. I saw it in games 6-7 last year. And in this SCF. Maybe he tries so hard that it works against him.

If I were him, I'd seriously consider pulling a Durant after management ignored goaltending at the deadline. It's embarrassing this is what they had in net.

Accept that you won't win the Cup and just enjoy the players you have.
