And will only get worse with raises to Bouchard, McD and Drai’s extension kicking in eroding any cap increase. $30MM on 2 forwards playing 1/3 the game vs less than $3MM for the guy supposed to stop the puck.

IMO, the Oiler's haven't failed. And none of their players have been a disappointment. They played for the cup two years in a row. Nobody but the Panthers can say that. Little comfort I know, but to say they failed or a disappointment is not seeing the forest, from the trees. Remember, you're interacting with Sabre, Jackets, Ducks etc. They just ran into a slightly better team that's put together better.

Think of how architects design buildings. They start with a solid foundation, one that can support the weight. Then they build from the ground up. Edmonton was given penthouses and tried to build top down with older veterans and rushing prospects. If they had focused more on finding character guys (not the Perry/Kane type) that can help bring a team together, spent more time investing in development and scouting....things might just be slightly different and people would be talking about Bob & the Panthers like you are McDavid.

They got a game away from winning one year then 2 the next. They aren't the leafs. Florida beat teams built in many different ways. McDavid is a one of a kind talent. He will win one eventually. Its not his fault his management team are absolute idiots. Their identity was speed speed speed. Then they got slower. Just idiotic. Not matching those offer sheets while bringing in Skinner and Arvudsson was beyond dumb. They were the only team that took it to Florida last year because they were faster. Florida got better they got worse.

Also - we've had big time cap space many seasons in recent years that go unused. I'd find a way to make McDavid fit, and build from there.

Finally - to anyone voting no - would you take McDavid at $11M? If yes - can you honeslty not find an extra $5M of trash/overpaid players on your team to get rid of to make room for him at $16M?
