Bouchard has been a hot topic for a couple years now. Early last season I was hoping that they would trade Bouchard but under Coffey Bouchard really came on and shown himself to be an elite offensive dman and got his defensive game on track as well, not only in the regular season but in the playoffs against tough competition he showed he can play very well when it is hard.

This season seems to be a pretty consistent showing of Bouchards defensive liabilities and now that has the discussion going again, would you trade Bouchard?
Trading a 24 year old d man who has put up the most points in a playoff run all time, scored 80 points and this year has:
58% goals for
60% xG
59% SCF
58% HDCF

As well as the most successful
Zone exits on the team and 2 best at rush chances against while playing the other teams best lines would seem a bit stupid.

Good luck trying to replace that player

I, too, can get frustrated with his seemingly, at times, lackadaisical play and what seems to be almost too patient with the puck when in danger.

All that said, a resounding and hearty HELL NO to trading him. We have been begging in this town for years for an offensive rightshot D-man. You continue to work with him on his D but you do not and cannot replace a player like this.
This.

Seems like there's always been a part of the fan base that would prefer a team of Kris Russells because "they don't make mistakes" while never attempting a positive play with the puck instead of a Petry or Bouchard because they can't recognize the ten positive plays they make for every mistake.
Off the glass and to the other team never counts as a turnover.

I think it comes from the bias of watching every one of this games and seeing every mistake he makes.

Some people have this weird misconception that other top defensemen don't make mistakes and Bouchard is the outlier.

100%

Bouchard has better GA/60 numbers at ES than each of the 4 d-men who finished ahead of him in Norris voting last year.

Reactions: Forgot About Drai
That's true. He's a byproduct of McDrai. Without them, he's a 45 point dman at best.
Evan Bouchard has been a premier offensive d-man in every league he's played in. From the OHL to the AHL to the Swedish Elite League to the NHL now.

Obviously his offense is positively impacted playing with McDrai, Most players' are. But there's nothing to suggest he wouldn't be an elite point producer regardless of where he played.

One of those players has 24 in 49, the other has 37 in 49

He's got better GA numbers too.

Poster 1: "We need a top 4d to shore up the defence"

Poster 2: "We should trade Bouchard, our in-house developed top pairing D"

Poster 1: "Brilliant"!
60 some posts in this thread yet I haven’t seen one post advocating a trade based on his play. Until your strawman that is.

Nah, even if he makes mistakes the team still wins, his numbers are down offensively this year but he can bounce back, and he's also still young, defensemen take more time than forwards a lot of the time to hit their full potential. If he were 32 and the oilers were not in a playoff spot I wouldn't be completely against trading him but not at 24 that's crazy.

Naw

He's a solid player. Makes some bone head mistakes and has bad games but overall strong asset to the team
We are weak in D depth, trading our best young defenseman would be crazy

All depends what's on the market really. With some time to reflect, Rantanen --> Necas and Drury is a semi genius move. Necas costs 6.5M next season as well. Even if he plays great, he's not costing 14M like Rantanen. The Avs can also add another 2C with their cap space. This is an all in move for this season and next season.

Bouchard is hardly untouchable. He's more of a merchant to McDrai than Rantanen is to Mackinnon and Makar and Rantanen was flipped for a better. package lol
Why has no other dman cracked 50 pts while playing with mcdrai? Don't want to trade him but he's never gonna be worth 10 million

Yeah I would trade him…………
If you could guarantee a star studded return and deliver the Stanley cup along with it. So in some make believe world if we could get Makar or Slavin, then yup I would trade him.

Agreed. I don't like it myself.

If you have someone like me in net then sure. I can cover up the mistakes and bail the defense out. But Skinner isn't good enough for that

Hell no unless you get a better defenseman that's a similar age and at a cheaper cap hit.

Honestly if say the Canes had offered Necas for Bouchard and RNH! I'd drive them to the airport In the nude.

Yes Bouchard is tradeable if the right deal comes along for a young player. Not old

I see 20% of Oilers fans don't have a clue. Maybe some rivals trying to stir shit up too.

Bouchard having a down year might be the best thing to happen to us this year. If he comes in under 10, as opposed to the 11 he could have demanded if he upped his production from last season, we have ourselves one hell of a deal on a #1 Dman.

Idgaf if he doesn't PK, or if he makes some mistakes now and then trying to make a play, our coaches want guys who make plays from the back end and he does that about as well as anyone. People really need to watch more hockey; Makar had a brutal giveaway last time we played the Avs. Hughes misplay gave us a 2 on 1 last time against the Nucks. Every player makes mistakes, you just see one from Bouch ~40 times a year and only a few from those guys because you don't watch them every game, when they probably make the same amount over the course of a season.
