I’d really like to see Saturday night games moved to 5pm for various reasons

  • As a dad with little ones we can watch the game together and still have them in bed at a normal time (7pm starts give us maybe 1 period max)
  • Increased viewers - a great chance to get all generations watching
  • Those in attendance get home at a much better time - again better for families
  • When I was younger it would have been great to watch the game with the boys and then head out for the night
  • Families can watch together far easier
  • Bars and restaurants showing games will see more business as more people will eat at their regular dinner time

What do you guys think about it?

Pass, rather have dinner then watch the game.
Just curious do you have kids ? I’m wondering what others with kids feel like. I would love for mine to be apart of the experience with me but it’s timing isn’t the best

7 pm is fine, 4 pm is also fine. Someone tell the UFC people that having a main event at 1 am is dumb as hell.
I like 4pm actually a lot also. That allows for the stations to add the 7pm game right after

Let your kids stay up late on Saturday, problem solved.

I was allowed to stay up and watch the Leafs on Saturday nights. Than had to tape Saturday Night Main Event when they were on.

My daughters are grown, they started attending games with me once the were old enough to go to the washroom alone.

My sons are grown up and should have provided me with grandchildren by now!

The time really doesn't matter to me, as I'm usually busy doing something else, and record the games to watch later, which also saves me from having to watch ads and listen to talking heads.

When I was very young we listened to the first period on the radio, as TV coverage started with the second. Saturday we were allowed to stay up and watch the whole game. Even though it started at 8, it was usually over by 10 or a few minutes after (no 15-20 minute intro/anthems, 10 minute intermissions instead of 18, and no OT and SO).

I have been doing 5pm starts for a while as I moved to Alberta temporarily. Kind sucks during the week. Saturday is okay, but in the spring i feels like it kills the vibe. I personally prefer 7pm starts. There’s something about “hockey night” in Canada where 5pm wouldn’t feel the same. Maybe the nostalgia of growing up with it sways my opinion.

I also feel like demographics will play a part of the answer here. As a young adult I’d love this. Now having a family, I use Saturday for errands and stuff so the 5pm start makes me miss quite a few starts and the nights are more of a wind down, whereas a few years ago I’d miss the end of the game to go out.

My kids are teenagers. You could put the game anytime you want and there is no chance they are sitting with me for 2.5 hours watching it. Especially the teenage girls.

I'm in Alberta so they are already at 5 PM so what you are really asking is do I want them on at 3PM and the and the answer to that is f*** no.

NowI doI appreciate the fact that you have a kid and as it stands you get 1 period max.

But I need you to know that as a country we had a meeting and that is a sacrifice we are prepared for you to make.

I’d like to see them star at 9pm EST so that I can view them at 6pm PST, if I’m being honest.

Also, I remember 8pm EST being the standard start time all through the 70’s and into some of the 80’s.

845 would be perfect. Once my kids are old enough to sit through a game, I could get behind a sudden shift to 545. At some point down the road though, 7 or 730 could work.

Living in the west for the last twenty years, I love 4:00 games, even during the week. I can watch them right after work (I work from home) and then have my evening free.

On Saturdays, I would be able to watch the game and then go out to the bar afterwards (back when I went to bars lol)

Definitely not - moved to Vancouver ~20 years ago but am still a Leafs fan, 4pm starts Vancouver time are already too early, 2pm would be even worse.

No, 7 is fine.

What I don't like is this whole opening ceremony and national anthem BS turning 7 into 7:25.

Have a broadcast start time and a puck drop time.

It's nice eating dinner and running the dishwasher just as the game starts. Western Canada can f*** right off bitching about early times when it's the only time people watch their teams, my condolences if you live there.

I agree about the pregame stuff. Drop the puck at 7 and start the ceremony and broadcast earlier

I know what you’re saying, but no. I live in central time and 6pm starts are the best

I wouldn’t mind the odd Saturday afternoon game in Dec or Jan when the weather is not so great….and and before high school baseball.
