Hard to see Boston selling on their captain while being as close as they are to the playoffs. If anything it would have to be a hockey trade and Eddy doesn't seem to be a good fit for that.
If the Oilers want to add a top 6 F it should be another center so they can let Drai and McJesus run wild and not completely sacrifice scoring depth.

Sorry yes I should clarify, if they were to add a forward I think he would be exactly what they need. I personally say another Goalie should be top of that list

Lowetide isn't a random guy. He is one of the more popular, and level headed, members of the Edmonton media.
He wouldn't report it if there wasn't something to it.
I personally hope Stan Bowman uses Edmonton's assets to get a RHD and a 1B goaltender, but knowing the Oilers getting a forward is something they'd do instead.
TBH you would take Marchand over any RHD that is available......

I can't say I know who is actually available as a Defenseman.
I do know Skinner struggles to hold Edmonton in games when they start off slowly (which is waaaay too often). Adding a 1b goaltender, for me, is the top priority this trade deadline. Vejmelka? Daccord? Dunno.
Adding a 2nd pairing guy on the back end is next but not by much. With Marcus Pettersson gone maybe Oleksiak? Jokiharju remains a pending UFA in Buffalo. Someone like that.
Then for me, bottom six forwards is next. Scissons for a right show center or something, Mathieu Olivier is a winger who can PK, hit and fight. Not sure if they can even get him.
A guy like Marchand who would cost a lot isn't high on my list of things for the Oilers to get.
Why not go all in? The Oilers window to win is only a few more years.
Clearly the end of last year we talked about the biggest need being wingers for Leon. We still don't have that....
Also they aren't adding a goalie, I don't know why it's being beaten to death.

The Oilers have over $5M in cap space and they could manufacture a fair bit more if needed. At the deadline Marchand will be owed all of about $250K in real money. The cost to have a third team retain would be a late pick.
Now is he a realistic target. I suspect not. But who knows.

Marchand has a cap hit of $6.125M, Oilers have $5M in cap space currently. They also have Kane on LTIR but is expected back at the end of February and carries a cap hit of $5.125M. Oilers need to move money out to make a Marchand trade happen.

With retention they could easily fit him, and Kane just stepped on the ice for the first time a week ago in a solo skate with no equipment or other players on the ice. There's next to zero chance he's back this month. It's almost a foregone conclusion he won't play in the regular season.
Yeah Kane is still a few weeks away at least. He isn't even skating with the team in a no contact sweater yet. He won't be back in February.

Boston's not fetching a top pairing RD for a depreciating Carlo and a Marchand rental, c'mon now.
I don't see it happening because Edmonton won't want to nuke their depth but something like this is workable from a $ standpoint:

Ehhh. That contract is approaching negative value for me. 5.125 for another near after this one and pacing for 30 points while getting 17+ minutes a night? Sub 50% on the draw? Nasty business.
It would probably set Edmonton back a lot. Boston doesn't really need to sell him off, and with the cap going up, they could probably afford to keep Marchand and retool a bit. To retain the salary that EDM would essentially need to make any other moves (like upgrade at defense) and remain cap compliant, I can't see Boston taking less than Savoie and Edmonton's first-rounder this year, which is likely going to be a pretty late pick anyway. I don't think Boston would want to take any roster players back from Edmonton (that they're willing to give up, at least; i.e., Henrique or some other cap dump) to make the money work since I am fairly convinced that they are comfortable keeping Marchand and/or confident he will re-sign. I don't know a ton about Savoie other than that he's fast and that the Oilers fleeced the Sabres to get him, so maybe it's totally sacrilegious to suggest he should be part of the return, but I just don't see Boston taking anything less than a blue chip prospect for Marchand. Frankly, I still think that if the offer was just 2025 1st and Savoie for Marchand the Oilers are still winning that trade.

Hes not exactly a "random" hes a former radio host, Former HF member, has a blog that followed the oilers since 2005 and writes for the athletic.
Im not sure i'd say he's an insider but he probably does have some contacts in the Oilers org, i think he even briefly worked for the Oilers.
Some $$$ has to go back the other way or retention has to be involved.. or both. This is just the economics of the situation in Edmonton.

I don't think Boston is getting a first on top of Savoie. Maybe Savoie straight up or Savoie and money going back, but he's our best prospect by a country mile and really breaking out at the AHL level right now. His point totals aren't gaudy but the Condors stink and the coach likes ultra defensive hockey.
