Would you give Stamkos away if someone would take him?

@Porter Stoutheart on the main board asserts that I am the only Preds fan who wouldn't jettison Stamkos for nothing if someone would take him off our hands.
I hope this poll proves him wrong, but if he's right, I'll reluctantly accept that you are all stupid.
Y'all can't win. Because if this poll proves ME wrong, I'll be the one forced to believe you are stupid. :naughty:

I don't think we really have to worry about it, though, because there are ZERO NHL teams who would take Stamkos off our hands for free. And if you are self-admittedly even dumber than an NHL GM... that's pretty sad for you. :naughty:

Do I count? Because as frustrating as he's been at times, that would only be making the situation worse IMO.
Of course you count, step sis.

Ah yes making a categorically unverifiable claim as if it's fact to support your opinion. Solid.

Voted yes - in a vacuum, video game sort of scenario, he has negative value and I'd trade him for a 7th.

In reality, to @Viqsi's point, you can only do this if he wants to and the off-ice impacts might outweigh the benefits. It just depends on what is happening behind the scenes.

The rising cap is going to help with the contract, bad as it is.

f*** no. Signing him to that bloated NMC contract helped lock us into a specific direction that has prevented rebuilding flexibility and eaten roster spots that caused young players and prospects to be jettisoned for nothing. He doesn't get to freely walk away into a better situation after half a season with nothing else to show for it (and us probably having to eat half his salary for 3 more years).

And I'm someone that doesn't even really want the guy on the team.

I think you’re an impatient, arrogant child.

No, I would not give away Stampe code because I’m a sacrifice this year to have a really damn good year next year

If I thought Trotz would do a proper rebuild instead of just burning that cap on a guy that's basically the same I would. Frankly if you get rid of Brunette he might not be that bad.

I'll say it: I'd give up Skjei for nothing.

I wouldn't give up Stamkos for nothing, but I'd eat half of his deal to trade him to tampa for their next two first round picks.
Eh I'm convinced Skjei is just another victim of a stupid Defensive system by the head coach. He hasn't been great but I'm not sure anyone could be in this garbage.

He's not "that bad" now. He took longer than expected to get going, largely because Brunette is such dumb f***.
You don't pay guys 8 million a season to be " not that bad ". If he was making 4.5 -5 it would be different.

Nobody here (to the best of my knowledge) is claiming that Stamkos is worth his current contract. That's very, very different from "give him away for free". There's nuance involved.

Mishandling a player like Stamkos after the drama of him leaving Tampa this summer would set us back on potential free agents for a decade. We're way better off riding out the contract and giving him time to have an impact in the locker room. He's been great since moving to center with Fil on his wing

Maybe this poll needed to clarify a few things, since people seem to be going off on tangents about how they'd RATHER move Stamkos with retention for futures, or do various other things with him. Sure, I'd RATHER get something for him or make a better deal if at all possible too. But that's not really the scenario we're talking about here.

This is a one-time only take-it-or-leave it opportunity. A team which Stamkos is willing to waive his NMC for comes to us tomorrow, says they'll take Stamkos and his full contract, for nothing in return. That's the only team he'll waive for, the only team with any kind of non-negative value offer whatsoever. There are no other better trade options. It's a one time get-out-of-jail-free opportunity on that contract.

I already find Stamkos to be too slow, too unidimensional, he is a liability 5-on-5, he absorbs too much icetime for a one-trick pony. I don't envision him getting better as he gets older, or magically improving our team's fortunes in any way. I'm astonished if people see him as a net-positive asset around here. I doubt very much that he'd be viewed that way in a main boards poll absent the homerism. Other teams won't take him even for free, so this hypothetical scenario will of course never even arise. But it's unfortunate that some of us are THAT complacent - or starved for even declining mediocre talent - around here.

We're already one of the worst teams in the league. Whatever buoyancy Stamkos adds at the moment will decrease over time. We're not 1 player away from becoming a Cup contender. If he wanted out and if there was a team who thought his contract was a sweet deal and they would accept with no strings, we'd be crazy to not take that deal. We have to face it. The demolition to our competitiveness was done. It's time to break out a good blueprint and start rebuilding.

Agreed.

I don't think folks are seeing him as net positive must-keep; I think we're mostly seeing him as somewhere in the middle and not really needing to be dumped out of desperation. But hey, why not check your assumptions:
