Would you deal Fowler?

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

What would you do?

In a scenario where the team who we trade with is also returning a veteran backup that can support Dobes, would you trade Fowler (or a package with him in it) for :

A)A top-6 C to complete the 2nd line (would presumably be near or in the top-tier for 2Cs)
or a

B)A RHD to play with Hutson (would likely not produce points but does everything we lack and is right handed.)

C)Something else (explain in the thread)

D)NO DEAL

It'll be Fowler ++ for either the C or RD

Unless Davidson has a twin I'm sitting this one out and letting the rest of the GMs implode, should be some deals in the near future when they figure out how bad they've messed up

Goalie does not hold much value so I say we keep both a couple of seasons to really see what we have and we keep the best

I feel like it will be Price vs Halak all over again, do we want to trade one of them earlier and end up trading "Price" ?

I mean for the scenarios you proposed in the OP (Top tier 2C or Hutson ideal RD partner) hell yeah I would trade him.

But I doubt he has that much value, even as the centerpiece in a package I doubt he’s returning either of those assets.

Yes... easy yes if it brings the team that young stud coveted 2C.
Goalies typically don’t have that kind of value. Especially unproven ones. Dobeš had a great rookie season but having a safety net with Fowler in the pipeline is probably the best option. I think we still have at least a few seasons before we have to worry about a Price/Halak situation. And if we learned anything thing from that experience, trading a goalie for the guy whose hot right now isn’t always the right move. If we had traded Price because Halak had a great postseason, we would’ve given a hall of fame goalie away for peanuts and we would’ve never lived it down. Most teams run tandems nowadays anyways so there will be plenty of playing time for both goalies. I would not rush a trade for Fowler if I was Hughes.

It obviously depends on which center but generally most teams can get what they want and hold firm on not moving certain assets.

You dont trade Fowler unless Dobes rattles off multiple years of sustained #1 goalie success. Until thats there, you need multiple good goalies.

The Hab have two very good young goalies, not the time yet to trade either one.

We all know which goalie must imperatively go so we don't have to go through another tragi-comedy like last year's threesome in front of the net.

Btw, a few days ago I went especially to Verdun for a renowned poutine from Casse-Croûte Normand, guess what famous poutine eater occupies a very large portion of their Wall of fame...

Perfect answer. I get the temptation to shop Fowler, but, as you said, no team will pay enough for the nebulous potential of a young goalie. Halak was coming off a legendary playoff run and was traded for a 3C (albeit a good one).

Last season was largely defined by goaltending. It disappeared in the first half and the team struggled. Dobes stepped up in the second half and we made it to the ECF. I'm not expecting Dobes to pull a Montembeault, however the smart move would be to keep Fowler close by and give him the reps to reach his potential... whatever it may be.

This. Same reasoning so I will save some keystrokes :)

Go with the TWO goalies for now........and maybe for the next couple of seasons..........
Remember how the Bruins had Sway and Ulmark...............it served them very well.

The only option for trading him would be if there was a massive overpayment for him, which there is almost no chance of happening since unproven goalies don't have significant value.

We have plenty of other assets to trade instead, if he was included in a deal he just opens up another hole in net.

I'd be happy keeping him, but if it's for a big move where we have to really put some prospect value on the table, he can be a solid trade chip. Only if it's for a team changing player, though.

I'm open to trade Fowler and/or even Dobes but it depends on the return. In an ideal world I'd like to see how they do next season. Dobes had a great playoff but he struggled at points during the season and fowler had to be called up. I'd like to prolong the decision a little more but if the offer was too good to pass up Fowler isn't untouchable.
