I'm curious about what everyone's thoughts are on bringing Campbell back?

Personally I'm starting to think we need to swing for the fences goalies wise and grab a Gibson type of starter so unless Campbell is fine playing backup for low AAV I may not be interested in him returning.

Thoughts?

Too risky as #1 and too expensive as a backup

He had the same save % as the perennial best goalie in the world, we didn't win because we didn't score, one goal in game 7? Seriously? And you want to run the goalie out of town?

This loss is not on Jack Campbell, he is a great goalie who can step it up, and we can afford him (most likely) if we were to upgrade the position it would cost us 5+ million easy and we don't have that extra space.

Regardless of your feelings on him, i said from DAY ONE that Mrazek deal was BRUTAL and it is and was, 3.8 for that joke? You screwed yourself getting Campbell for cheap based on that contract alone, if we do resign him he's obviously the #1 over Mrazek so he knows this, he can't take less, that would be insane.

4 million or under 4 and Mrazek goes with a pick to afford him, but if Campbell walks we are not going to be happy next season running with Mrazek, or seeing the prices of goalies this year, just watch.

Regardless of what his Sv% says he did not have good games (for the most part) when it mattered once again. Same thing last year. Hard to win when your starting every game down 2-0. Big saves he needed to make he did not. Not saying he is a bad goalie just have 0 faith in him being a number 1 non tandem goalie.

I assumed it was a given Mrazek is also gone as that is wasted cap. I agree that contract also really screws your bargaining position with Campbell. Thats why its tricky as the AAV he likely gets is starter AAV and I don't think that's a wise investment

I don’t generally disagree with what you are saying, BUT, Campbell and Mrazek don’t scream a tandem for a team that is going all in. We need to go all in and make some major moves this summer

What happened last time the Leafs brought in a goaltneder from Anthiem. He isn't on the team any longer.

The major moves the Leafs nned to make is bring in a couple players that drive to the net and create havic in front of the net and shoot the damn puck at the net instead of trying to be real pretty with their goals.

Just like gambling i wouldn't let the past decision of a goalie from Anaheim effect a future one.

I would take him back in a heartbeat for 3-4 million.

Best asset management is to bring him back at around 3.5-4m
Would you play him as your number 1 or try to grab a tandem goalie or go real cheap and grab a pure backup?

No, not a f***ing chance, I do not, believe in this player, the reality is he sucked from December-April, you can throw his record all you want at me the Leafs had the #2 offense in the league so the shit goaltending didn't hurt them like it should have.

Then he didn't give them back to back good games in the playoffs.

Don't come at me with "he was just as good as Vasi."

no he wasn't Vasi is still playing so that's objectively wrong and even if it wasn't it's not the same Vasi is a back to back champion, he's a vezina winner, he is a hall of famer today, Vasi is a closer when he had his chance to close he did.

Campbell has had 5 chances to a close a series in the last 2 years he has failed, because he's a failure that's what he does he fails

Campbell isn't a closer, he isn't a winner ,he's a loser, because he loses.

a legitimate #1 goalie wins the series against Montreal, a legitimate #1 goalie wins the series against Tampa because a legitimate #1 goalie doesn't shit the bed in game 2, 4 and 6

get a real starter in here

get a real backup in here

fix the f***ing goaltending because it's held them back for at least 2 years, and you know what probably as far back as 2019.

That's where it gets tough. Do you trust Mrazek enough to be a tandem goalie? Does the money work if you keep his 3.8 million and up Jack's salary? (I don't think this option is on the cards), do you give Kalgren a go as the permanent backup?

There is a lot up in the air when it comes to goalies. For me that actually increases the want for Jack to stay, it's nice to get some consistency in the position IMO. Some tough decisions are ahead.

Yeah, but I'd have a take it or leave it offer for him. He's not a guy you bend over backwards to keep.

Yup these are my thoughts and worries when it comes to bringing Jack back at 3.5 to 4 million. I dont think he is a number 1 guy and that puts pressure on the leafs to find another cheap tandem or take the gamble and run him as a true #1
