Maybe we can form a sub category where the league championship is not determined by who wins games, but by who has the best Corsi stats. I wonder if the champion would be the same in both?
I haven't looked at the stats behind that, but the point is more NYR have a lot of work needed and it runs deeper than just adding Hertl and subtracting Laf.

Just a quick look at even strength (Avs, Canadiens, Bruins, Hurricanes, Panthers, Knights) were top 6 last season. Tampa was inside the top 10.

Hertl with an extension is worth Laffy.

Ranger fans need to be real with Laffy. You can say you don't want to trade him or whatnot, but to get Hertl on an extension, the value is definitely fair.

Laf shouldn't be traded. He's so far shown that he's a capable 3rd liner. In three or four years when Kreider and Panarin are no longer better he can take over the 2nd line spot. He'll be ready at that point. His skating will be dynamic and he won't be really low on the depth chart. The Rangers window is for the next decade, they're trying to win five or six Cups, not just one.

/end thread.

This is such a naive take.

Your top 4 forwards are turning 29, 29, 31 and 31 this year

You think the Rangers have a decade long Stanley Cup window?

You know we've been there before, right? We've tried that approach and backfired into having absolutely no prospects or young talent. It was an everybody can go sale...

So you think trading Laf devoids your team of young talent?

Kakko, Fox, Shesterkin, Miller, Chytil, Schneider, Lunqdvist etc.etc.

How does trading ONE guy mean your giving away your future? That statement makes no sense.

In fairness to OP, there has been local (Larry Brooks) speculation of Alexis availability combined with the fact that there has also been speculation of the NYR's interest in Hertl.

I think it's a fair question to ask.

Is it because anyone who reads or listens to Larry Brooks is a moron. Same as Larry brooks. Brooksie and anything about the rangers is bullshit. He has no insiders anymore and basically steals ideas from this site.

I wouldn't trade Meier for Panarin straight up.

The response was directly related to NYR having older players and having to go for it now, not just trading away Laf.
And outside of Shesterkin and Fox, everybody on that list is a question mark.
