I know we won't know now but if he didn't get inured and was to stay on that pace do y'all think he would have reached 70 goals?

Before Ovechkin got injured he was on pace for 68 goals, if he didn't get injured would he get 70 goals?

I know we won't know now but if he didn't get inured and was to stay on that pace do y'all think he would have reached 70 goals?

I believe that if he'd have stayed on that pace, he would have scored exactly 68 goals

It’s very common to have over the top projections in November and happens all the time but also a lot variables happen to prevent why early projections aren’t accurate and tend to cut them by 20% or even sometimes 50%.

Players that gets these early projections eventually deal with slumps that effect confidence mentally for a string of games and goes for the entire team as well that effects the players production . It’s also the wear and tear as the seasons goes along and players/teams don’t play as hard to avoid injuries. Coaching also trying new things with styles and line combos effects it. There’s also just having bouts of bad or good luck luck.

Without even looking at his early season stats in his career, I can probably say this isn’t first time he had projections over 70 in a season and he’s never scored 70 goals. Him hitting late 40s or 50s marker probably be what he would have hit.

Just wanted to add to all that were saying that Auston Matthews would catch up to him one day are forgetting that Ovechkin's health is a major factor in his goal tally to date.

Now we're seeing #34 starting to struggle to maintain his health and he's only 27yrs old.
It was always a pipe dream in my opinion. Longevity is why Ovechkin is where is.

No, but we were robbed of what I’m certain would’ve been his record setting 10th 50 goal season. He can still get there but he needs to stay red hot.
Just saying he has continued to play at the same level he was before he got injured. So if he didn't get injured we couldn't say he wouldn't wouldn't have stayed hot and hit 70.

no, it's common for players to get injured when they are playing above their skill level. feels weird saying that when talking about Ovie.
Thats makes zero sense. At all. Scoring goals is what Ov does. Im fact he is about to become the very best at it in the entire history of hockey. And here you are talking about him playing above their skill level????
