Was it? Source or I don't believe.Keep in mind at first it was expected the cup was going to be 6 teams its not like European teams were dropped.
Was it? Source or I don't believe.
The the two previous editions were with 8 teams.
And since NHL even gave lack of time to arrange a qualification tournament as a reason (in reality nothing but an excuse) why these two gimmicks "HAD" to be included.
lots of people seem to be cheering for team north America.Team Europe could be stacked but they'd still have no chance. The players have nothing to play for. If they win, their homecountries won't even care. They will bring the kind of effort they would in NHL preseason, maybe less.
Team NA at least has the youngsters thing going for them, a lot of kids trying to prove themselves and really eager to gear up for the season.
But if either of these teams win the whole thing, can you imagine how strange it would be? It'd essentially be a 'lost' tournament in the history books. I'm rooting for Team NA in part for this reason, it would likely make it the last time we see these fantasy draft teams.
If quality of competition is the argument then the tournament could be played with 6 teams. Your argument becomes yet another excuse.I'd much rather watch a U23 team and a cumulative European team than some trash Euro teams just to make it "national"
Who give a **** if it's a national, I want to see good competition. I haven't been disappointed through these friendlies. A lesser product is a lesser product, it doesn't diminish the outcome of the winner in my mind. This is the best of the best on best. Bringing in ****** teams doesn't justify the tournament.
The Euro team is better than any **** team you could add to the tourney - and they're the worst team.
It's a fun team to watch and cheer for but that doesn't mean it would be fun if they won. Are Canadians and Americans cheering harder for Team NA than their own country? Czechs vs EU would be worst final but Team NA would also create mixed feelings for a lot of fans.lots of people seem to be cheering for team north America.
I really don't think the nhl would be too upset if they won.and really they wouldn't bring back the winning team the next time around?
Talked about this before but people thought a czech vs Europe final would be the worst result for the nhl
Maybe it should have been Team EMEA instead, adding talent from China, Japan, Saudi Arabia... (They play hockey in Australia?)
Your geography is a little off...
Europe, Middle East, Africa = EMEA
To get China, Japan, etc, you'd need to have an APAC team (Asia-PACific)

It is funny how some of you keep playing this purely on paper and only staring at the roster when motivation, team play and spirit in the locker are so important in a short tournament like this. And national pride relates to all these things, something this lefover team CAN'T have. I expect that to be very visible in rest of the Team Europe games too.
And Canada couldn't pick McDavid and USA couldn't pick Eichel, but do tell me more about the absolutely best on absolutely best aspect.
It's pretty clear that supporters of the format mainly want an all star exhibition as opposed to an international tournament. That's all well and good I guess, but as you say the attempts to claim that it is something else are pretty weak.
Team Europe is extremely weak, nothing else to say really...
Sweden and Norway together
.

Not a single Norwegian would make team Sweden.
edit: perhaps Zucc on the third line.
