A lot of Trotz’s moves I find to be more damaging long term
Yeah, Trotz has potentially put Nashville in a position where they can't really start a rebuild, nor compete for another 4-5 years. Purgatory is the worst place for any team to be, and it looks like that's where they're headed.

We're already rebuilding and have a top 5 pick plus two more 1sts in this draft.

I say Trotz because his off season was terrible, followed up by his mismanagement of skilled young players.

If Drury overpays for Miller out of desperation he takes it.

Adams is literally incapable of comprehending the idea of roster construction and is the least qualified person (along with Garf) to ever be given a GM job (by the single worst owner in hockey history).

Worse than Eugene Melnyk and Pierre Dorion? lol

Biased but Adams. The other GMs are at least trying some moves in an attempt to make their teams better. Adams sits on his hands as we flush season 14 down the toilet.

If only Dorion did this! I don't think it was possible to self-sabotage a team more than he did.

I was wondering, when did the "new" Sabres rebuild started exactly? 2020?

Melnyk was awful but there were some periods of success under his reign (they even came within a goal of reaching the SCF). In Terry's 14 full seasons as owner the Sabres have not made the playoffs even once. Adams literally had zero qualifications for the job except being a Pegula crony.

What moves did Drury make that were so bad this season / last offseason? He dumped Goodrow and Trouba at a cheap price. Re-signed Shestyerkin to a deal he pretty much had to. The zibenajad contract was signed years ago.

Kakko deal was bad but whatever, Trotz is a disaster.

Oh yeah the Sens also made the SC Finals in 2007... and were an elite team when he purchased them (2003) but that's not what I was thinking about when talking about the worst owner...

Adams is unqualified and handcuffed by Pegula, Drury thought he was the smartest guy in the room and destroyed a contender and Lou has the Islanders just sitting still. Something in the water in NY state but I will go with Adams for achieving nothing of worth whereas Lou and Drury oversaw some improvement and success to a degree.

Trotz needs more time in Nashville.

Yzerman and Francis are the definition of 'mediocre GM'.

Is it still called the 'Mike Milbury' award or did Jim Benning get his name engraved on this accomplishment for the foreseeable future?

Pierre Dorion has a much worse record than Milbury. I started a comparison on an excel sheet but quickly stopped as I was shocked how not even close that is.

I'm posting in this thread because it needs to be realized by more people. Ottawa had one of the best opportunities ever, they started a rebuild with :

Erik Karlsson (27)
Matt Duchene (27)
Mark Stone (25)
Mike Hoffman (28)
Jean-Gabriel Pageau (25)
Derick Brassard (30)
Ryan Dzingel (25)
Cody Ceci (24)

And also Thomas Chabot, Drake Batherson, Alex Formenton, Nick Paul, Joey Daccord, Colin White, etc, as prospects

Kinda lucked out with the Sharks pick (3rd OA : Tim Stutzle) but other than that... it's infuriating that this team is not a top contender as of now.

But I'll stop as I am off topic

I foolishly lauded the 'Summer of Pierre' hence I have no problem being corrected.

It infuriates me that Milbury is considered the worst GM by most people when he isn't even in the same galaxy as Ed Johnston whose idiocy literally killed the Whalers (also the Ron Francis trade is the single most disastrous trade in not just hockey history but in all of pro sports history).

Lamoriello

IMO, in hockey, either you aim at being good enough to make the playoffs, or you should aim for the bottom of the barrel to get good prospects
Lamoriello has gone for the 3rd option, the worst option: statu quo
Hiring Roy was a solid move, but the fact is: the team simply ain't good enough to compete, but not bad enough to suck ass. He's wasting the time of everyone, while the team will inevitably fall down the ranking, over time

Trotz inherited a team that majorly over performed and misread the direction. While that wasn’t great, it’s hardly jeopardized their ability to rebuild if that’s what they choose.

Drury though inherited an absolute powerhouse with a franchise goalie and franchise dman, and managed to piss off the players, and compete for last in the conference. That’s a special kind of terrible

If your analysis is "the Rangers were good last year and now they're not" then you have absolutely no understanding of what the problems are and how long they've been festering.

My opinion on Drury has pretty much stayed the same -- he's done little to inspire me so far, but it remains to be seen what mark he actually leaves on the team.

This horseshit roster imploding was inevitable and Jeff Gorton put it together.

"He upset the room!"

Good.

Pierre Dorion

I know he has lost the job 13 months ago but that's how bad he was, he's still by far the worst GM this season
You have to pick one for your team for 5 years, who you taking ?

Dorion

Bergevin ?

I'm thinking maybe Trotz ? The team seems to be playing better as of late though

A lot of strong contenders here this year.

Adams had the disastrous soundbite and the team is awful but it is clear he's been hamstrung by ownership and I think a lot of the moves he did make this summer made a lot of sense. His main sin is not going far enough.

Trotz went all in on guys clearly over the hill but I do appreciate his conviction and willingness to be bold. The team isn't good no matter what but I think they also did get unlucky and caught in a poor pdo spiral.

The winner for me though is clearly Drury. Don't think I've ever seen something like the Goodrow/Trouba/Kreider/Zibanejad stuff. So brazenly working things out through the media, pulling the nuclear option not once or twice but three times, finally getting what you want only to do literally nothing with the space you opened up ... pretty impressive stuff

The rags are underperforming but I haven't hated the moves.

Trouba out for free was a great value trade.
Shesterkin locked up is great.

Trotz has seemingly bungled like 10 different decisions in such a short time.

Marchessault contract
Stamkos contract
Skjei contract
McDonagh trade
Fabbro waivers
Carrier trade
Parssinin trade
Tomasino trade
Askarov situation
Glass trade

Do any of these moves look like good decisions in retrospect?
