Worst cases of 'just missed a Stanley Cup'?

Gotta feel for Burns. All those years in the Sharks on contending team. Plays the last 3 for Carolina. Moves to Colorado where everyone is ready to hand them the Cup, and then Carolina wins it instead. 41 years old, might be out of chances.

Marc Staal. Loses in the cup final, then Florida wins the following year after they got rid of him.

Marc Staal was terrible in the final for Florida that year. Should have been their #7D or #8D but was played in their top 4.

Good one, was thinking about that the other week. Eric too was on that team.

Pavelski is one.

IIRC he was between Dallas and Tampa as a free agent. Picked Dallas and then Tampa beat us in the Cup finals and then went on to win another Cup back to back. Add that to his history with the Sharks and ouch

Niche but Ill nominate Karlz Alzner with the Caps. 9 seasons and breaking down his body in the process, only for the Caps to win it the very year he left. He's also only 37 years old thats crazy.

Also curious if there are very talented players that started their career a year "too late" - missed a cup by a year and then never won. Bobby Ryan is one that surprised me.

HM to Jeff Skinner who seems to have left teams before they made playoff appeaeances. Nevermind a Cup

Seeing Carolina win tonight I couldn't help but feel bad for Brent Burns. What other cases like this come to mind? The 'reverse Bourque' if you will.
Burns and Pesce. God damn do I wish both of those guys could've been part of this team. Burns the first year here was absolutely amazing, and Pesce was as big a part of the turnaroud for this team from the dark years as either Slavin or Aho.
