Worst cases of 'just missed a Stanley Cup'?

  • Sportsbook will reset after the Cup is won
Jumbo Joe is pretty bad- don’t wanna get into how he coulda played better, that’s a tired convo, but he was close with the Sharks for like 10+ years- meanwhile the Bruins made an awful deal and still won 3 during his prime. He loved the game, fer sure, so that sucks. Pavelski too?

Seeing Carolina win tonight I couldn't help but feel bad for Brent Burns. What other cases like this come to mind? The 'reverse Bourque' if you will.

Not entirely same comp you want but Tony Amonte and Mike Gartner come to mind

Traded by Rangers at TDL in major shakeup (Despite Rangers being top team in NHL) to then watch Rangers win cup months later

Gotta imagine they felt bitter and it hurt to watch

Vanbiesbrouck:
Taken by Florida in the expansion draft after 11 seasons with the Rangers, New York immediately win the Cup
Loses the '96 SCF with Florida
Traded to the Devils midway through 2001 and they lose in the SCF

Huh?

Hossa was bad, but he was still in his prime and went on to win 3 with the Hawks and cemented himself as a key playoff performer so in the grand scheme of things it's pretty forgettable. A situation like Burns is painful cause you don't know how many more chances he's gonna get.
Yeah Hossa won 3 but going to back to back cup losers was still f***ing hilarious at the time. Burns pulled an Iginla. Players chasing cups and not winning them isn't something new.

Since the lockout Price 100%, dude wins on basically any other franchise

Of this series Hertl, dude has been snake bitten all season and is going to be haunted by the chances he missed, thought Game 1 signaled turning the corner but apparently not, now we have to see about trying to ship him out

Price and Lundqvist. Both took their teams on deep runs multiple times and made it to a SCF but just couldn’t get it across the line although never having great teams. Could make an argument for Luongo as well but he brought on a lot of his own playoff suffering.

I'd go with Lundqvist before Price.
