Worse NHL olympics ever?

why do we have to play big ice anyways? the last olympic tournament was sooooo much better on NA style ice

The last Olympic tournament is a contender for the best hockey I've ever seen, this one was a chore to watch.

:handclap: I chose not to do this. I Tivo'd it, but then heard the score, and just deleted it off TIVO without watching. Happy the NHL is back where players hit each other again

Same. Heard it was 2-0 and never watched one second. Canada was just too damn good for anyone.

I think so much of that it wasn't exciting HAS to be on the fact that the buildings were so empty. In Vancouver all of the games were sold out, and the fans were SO into it. There were plenty of empty seats in the gold medal game this time, and half the crowd that was there was sitting on their hands. That's a joke.

It was all about the atomosphere, if you ask me. If the crowd is going nuts, it changes everything.

1 good game in the whole tournament. Others were forgettable to say the least...

*worst

The Canadian players didn't even really seem happy about the olympic gold. The competition was terrible and the games were too.

Too many injuries for Sweden and Finland, Czechs and Slovaks in a down period, Russia strategically/tactically inferior to all other top teams due to poor coaching which led all players to go solo, USA didn't deliver when they needed to ...
Canada was too superior this Olympics, great for them but for a non-Canadian spectator I guess it was the worst in a long time ...

The play in general during the Olympics was awful. It was very uninspiring. Heck even when Canada won the gold they didn't celebrate that much. Usually when you win these tournaments you see the winners go bananas with all the equipment flying up in the air none of that was seen this time

Worst games for sure coming from a Canadian. Canadas dominance was anti climatic.

Would have much rather had a Canada Russia final albeit with a competent Russian coach.

Too many teams top stars were banged up as well Canada, Finland and the Swedes.

I'm canadian and in terms of overall talent present for all teams it was the weakest.

I've never seen the other countries other than Canada be this weak on paper. Slovakia and Czech Rep were particularly weak compared to past teams. Finland was weak too but they don't win on talent so much as team play/system/heart so they weren't affected as much.

And the big ice just made it worse.

Canada is like the old school trapping Devils, it's boring for everyone else because Canada is so suffocating defensively but it's great to watch as a Canadian

LOL. Nothing close. You don't get 30-60 shots a game playing the trap. There's a huge difference between trap hockey and just being good defensively. Canada was aggressive on the forecheck.

Yes I agree, the streets of Vancouver went nuts 2010 also we beat the Americans in OT. Doesn't get much better then that.

Probably. Tons of big-name injuries and the brand of hockey wasn't the most exciting. There were still some nice underdog stories though.

I think there were a number of things that affected these olympics and took away from what could have been an unbelievable tournament. First and foremost were the injuries, while a team like canada can sustain them other countries didnt have the depth to fill the holes to be as competitive.

The czech selection process eliminated them from medal contention right from the get go which is too bad because they should have iced a much better team.

Slovakias no show was really disappointing and eliminated another contender that would make noise or bring up the quality of competition.

The no goal call in the US Russia round robin game changed the complexion of the entire tournament. Not that its a good excuse but I think that game rattled Russia to a point of no return.

I didn't really like it. Finland eliminating Russia and the US/Russia game were probably the highlight of the tournament from a neutral perspective. It's never that interesting when one team dominates and wins it with relative ease.

I thought it was fine. Seeing Canada's smothering defense was very impressive. It made me miss the 2008 Red Wings (not that I'm comparing their level of play with team Canada's).

Not sure why Canada as the main developer of the game of hockey didn't scream bloody murder when other folks decided to play the game with their own rules and ice sizes. The NFL would never allow anyone to do that with football.

Olympic ice is just too big, it's not that the extra room is used anyway. Maybe changing the relative sizes of the zones might help. Players have to be much quicker and be able to work in smaller areas on the smaller ice. Point blank you need to be a more highly skilled player to be effective on the smaller surface.

So have at it everyone lol.

Exactly. Just because you can shut every team down, doesn't mean you trapped. This defense was one of the greatest of all time
