These refs in this game are a joke. I would've liked to see Stenberg and Lindstein get more gold medal game experience but I think I'm fairly unbiased. These refs were a joke. Let the kids decide the game.
I'll be rooting for whoever wins the Czech-USA game in the gold medal game.

Now that call was incredibly weak sauce that led to the GWG. Terrible goaltending though. Yikes.

Stenberg is Sweden's player of the game
They did, and the Finns scored on dives that got called so it should not have been tied in the first place. Their guy threw his head back with no high stick. Then a guy tripped with ASP's stick near him and he grinned about it while they got a PP and a goal. Then a guy was getting a little wrapped up and both of his knees gave out and he got the call. Then the Finns were exhausted and a guy faked an injury to get off the ice, complete fake job that even the announcers were like this is a fake job and he'll be back which he of course immediately was flying in full speed with a glorious chance. Then that GWG was scored on a complete final dive. It was a disgrace from Finland.
I get it during the regular season because I do not want to walk to my car at 2:30 am in absolute freezing February after a 2-1 triple overtime game against the islanders.
What would the argument be though for a tournament like this? Why not just keep overtime 5v5….

We haven't had a decent D prospect in so long, seems like its common to hype him up and over analyze his strengths and ignore some flaws. Drives me crazy when he gets referred to as Petro lite, he is no where on that trajectory. I see more of a middle pairing Dman, who might become a #3D if he hits his ceiling. Don't get me wrong, i'll be ecstatic if he becomes that, nothing to balk at. I just see no timeline in which he develops into a 1D.

Agreed, he makes bad decisions with and without the puck. He doesn’t drive the play. He’s still young obviously but I don’t see it.

I mean there's literally an article today with his own coach openly saying he's on a Forsling trajectory. They talk about Slavin. But "Petro lite" is a bridge too far? I don't get that
He doesn't? He makes excellent decisions with the puck. He was incredible all tournament. Whiffed on a few passes the other day, today he could have been better positioned on one of the Finn goals but otherwise he has been sterling, it's a defining feature, his poise and IQ. Hence the comparison. He won't put up Petro's offensive numbers but his value will be in the Petro stability value area.

Tend to agree. I remember watching Petro in the WJC’s (the famous John Carlson OT goal) and thinking this guy is incredible. Lindstein seems to be tracking like a Carl Gunnarson. Solid if unspectacular. Stenberg on the other hand blew me away this tourney and should be rocketing up prospect lists. I don’t care what his stats look like the rest of the year in the SHL. That kid is legit.
Sometimes but he’s just a play it safe D. I saw him make bad passes in this game and he wasn’t even under pressure. That 3rd goal the Fins scored he acted like he had to stay as far away from the puck carrier as possible and he was right in front of the net.
It’s one game, but personally I don’t see a lot of upside

Per Wikipedia it's twice since the official first WJC in 1977. But, this still surprised me to see.

Would be like calling Snuggy, Hull lite just because he has a good shot.
Petro is one of, if not the best overall Defenseman the Blues have ever had. Calling a Defensman, who isn't even the best Dman on his own WJC team similar, is just way off base in my eyes. Petro at the same age would be the best Dman on any and all of these WJC teams.

It's more than one single attribute like a shot. It's multiple attributes. Vision. Poise under pressure. Excellent stick. Great first pass. Can handle a PP. The points come smoothly from just natural playing, and they come consistently for this reason. It's a shift over shift consistency that Petro brought and that's at least the sixth attribute they have in common instead of just one like a quick accurate shot release.
I am well known for my high praise for Petro. I don't think Lindstein is on that level. I have concurrent postings on this subject that say we need a defenseman who is better than all three of Broberg Parayko and Lindstein to give us a contending core. But he is an absolute piece when we had one fewer at that position, it is genuinely something to be excited about

I see the Gunnarsson comps just as off as the Petro-lite comps. I really don't see much comparison in the styles of Gunnar and Lindstein either.
Petro-lite probably is reasonable enough, but the lite part does heavy lifting and people will come away with different interpretations of it. I think Forsling is a pretty good stylistic comp.

He's going to be better than Gunnarsson IMO. I feel like the hockey IQ is higher. Gunnarsson wasn't the ideal partner for Petro, who had a huge range of them in his time. Lindstein is more the type of player we spent two years before acquiring Bouwmeester from like 2011-2013 wanting to get, someone who could be awesome next to Petro and not someone Petro had to carry, a genuine player in his own right.

Why? Gunnar was a good skater, a good outlet passer, while playing a cerebral game and taking on tough defensive assignments (like he has at the WJC) and could PK. Similar frame as Lindstein. And not known as a two-way powerhouse though could contribute offensively. I could easily see that as how Lindstein games translates to the NHL level. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Gunnar was taller, Lindstein is a much better skater and passer IMO. Gunnar was never someone that could QB a PP, while it's not Lindstein's main strength, his passing ability, skating ability, and IQ allows him to at least be capable of it.
The things that I see that will prevent Lindstein from succeeding come down to his size/strength will he be able to make his weakness an area that can't be exploited at the next level, and then his skating and decision-making/transition, can his stength maintain a strength at the next level.
Gunnar was someone that played a decent enough robin role to Petro and Phaneuf in Toronto.
Even of recent Blues players, Leddy is a better stylistic fit than Gunnar.
