Unreal that our 3rd round pick just did that against team Canada. It was also a great sequence by Jiricek. My favorite part about him is the desire for the puck during key moments. That was a quality I really liked about young Fabbri in St. Louis. At any rate, the more games Jiricek can play in this tournament, the better. I can see this being very redeeming for him, and he can carry that confidence back to the OHL.

Trnava, Slovakia
Slovakia scored 14 goals in 5 games in this tournament. Dvorsky factored in on 9 of them (5-4-9 or 64% of the goals) and is tied for the tournament lead in scoring. Pekarcik (3-4-7) factored in on half of the team’s goals. Without those two players they’d likely have been relegated today by Germany.
This is indeed true. On top of the weak roster our coach is awful. He couldn’t even get our greatest generation in years (2004 borns) past Finland in the QF last year. Lots of nepotism in Slovak hockey. If you saw the previous games where Satan jr was playing, he was the worst forward on the ice and yet he is actually a drafted prospect.

As for your last point, it is accurate. Dvorsky had a similar performance at the U18’s where he had to score 4 goals for Slovakia to beat Germany 6-4 to avoid potential relegation. I would hope to see Dvorsky at the WC in May but if the blues are in a playoff mix maybe they ask him to stick around.

Jiricek may not make all tournament team, but you see flashes of high end potential. If he can stay healthy (and like most 18yo prospects) add a bit of muscle, he could end up as best defenseman from ‘24 draft.

We need to get MacInnis to help him with his shot but he's got some good puck skills for sure. He was not so visible throughout the game and had a few nerve-wracking moments in the D zone but you can see the skill there.

lol @ everything Canadian.. the Canadian mods banned me from the Czech game thread for celebrating the Czech win

f*** Canada

Free speech is limited north of the border, don't you know that.

I like Canadians overall but I'm not sure any country is as passionate about anything as they are about hockey. The meltdown is epic right now

Exactly

It’s always the same though, they can dish it out but can’t take it. Their fans always cheer for whoever is playing the USA because the rivalry is real.

I saw so many quality passes like that when I scouted him last season. Jiricek is so good at delivering accurate passes when looking off defenders. I really hope he can stay healthy for the rest of this season.

Yeah, the rivalry is real but the intensity is 90% on their side. US hockey fans are used to not winning these tournaments, so it's icing on the cake when we do well. I guess it's not easy coming to the realization that they don't dominate the hockey world anymore. The Russia-Canada rivalry can be pretty intense too but they don't have that outlet right now.

I didn't scout him at all but he's totally different player from how I imagined him. I thought he was more of a sturdy, physical defender but he's a lot more crafty than I thought.

If Canadian fans are melting down like this from the WJC, can you imagine how they're going to react when USA beats them at the Four Nations?

Crafty is a good way to describe him and he's a lot more explosive than people give him credit for.
