Yeah, the rivalry is real but the intensity is 90% on their side. US hockey fans are used to not winning these tournaments, so it's icing on the cake when we do well. I guess it's not easy coming to the realization that they don't dominate the hockey world anymore. The Russia-Canada rivalry can be pretty intense too but they don't have that outlet right now.
I didn't scout him at all but he's totally different player from how I imagined him. I thought he was more of a sturdy, physical defender but he's a lot more crafty than I thought.
Anyone have a video of Stancl’s goal?
Get f***ed Canada. This team was dirty.
Free speech is limited north of the border, don't you know that.
I like Canadians overall but I'm not sure any country is as passionate about anything as they are about hockey. The meltdown is epic right now
With respect, I'd argue that the average US citizen is as passionate, if not more passionate about their gun rights than we Canadians are about hockey.
As for free speech being limited here? I can agree to disagree - neither of us are likely to budge from our views across the Canada/US border, each holding differing opinions and stereotypes about the other.
I'd expect the reasoning to be more along the lines of let's not let someone throw gas on the fire here... This shit is about to get out of hand without adding more fuel to the fire. I can spot that from 3000+ miles away from Ottawa, with lingering concussion issues impairing my judgment, memory and cognitive functions...

No offense meant, it was mostly tongue in cheek anyway. I just didn't realize we had Canadians in this forum as well.
I won't get into the political discussion but I will say that there isn't anything in the US that unites the entire country that would compare to hockey in Canada, in both good and sometimes bad ways. You have segments of US society that are passionate about one thing or another but it varies so much across the country.
I don't really get all the divisiveness honestly but then I guess I don't really pay attention to the news or politics as much as most people do. I wish more people would tune all that stuff out and stop the negativity but guess we can only worry about ourselves.
Eh, we're pretty few and far between on this subforum. But we're lurking behind our 20 foot ice walls, ready to douse you with boiling maple syrup if we have to!
Then scream "Sorry! I'm so sorry!" after we realize what we just did.
We need him very badly to be that.Jiricek may not make all tournament team, but you see flashes of high end potential. If he can stay healthy (and like most 18yo prospects) add a bit of muscle, he could end up as best defenseman from ‘24 draft.
We should be getting him to do that with A LOT of The Blues' players! We need to get MacInnis to help him with his shot but he's got some good puck skills for sure. He was not so visible throughout the game and had a few nerve-wracking moments in the D zone but you can see the skill there.

Yes it does. I was talking more about CURRENT Blues! And Snuggeruud, Dvorsky, and Bolduc are pretty decent shooters. I can't wait for this next crop of prospects to graduate.Jecho's shot looks pretty good though!

There are at least a handful of us including one of the moderators. But we're more laid back than Maple Leaf fans.No offense meant, it was mostly tongue in cheek anyway. I just didn't realize we had Canadians in this forum as well.

Wasn't particularly impressed with my Canadian boys overall... A shitton of bone headed idiotic plays leading to deserved penalties against, cost a Canadian team that was subpar to the hype being thrown their way this tournament. Most times penalized in the tournament leading into the QF and many of them were entirely unnecessary. I can understand taking a holding or hooking penalty impeding a clean breakaway - but I can't condone a cross-check to the face or boarding...
When you watch the replay of the Beaudoin hit - specifically the 2nd/3rd replays (link below), the contact goes elbow to torso, shoulder to body and lastly thigh to thigh. Penalty? Absolutely. 5 min major and a game misconduct for kneeing? Debatable. Call it elbowing and give Beaudoin 2 mins, I don't think many people argue.
The Gibson hit that was called a 2 min kneeing penalty was far worse and should have been called a 5 min major. Not that it changes anything in the end.
Also, what the hell was Cameron thinking challenging there? Clearly the Canadian player was shoved by Sale, who angles him into Hrabal. But there was no attempt to steer away from contact, slow or stop - that contact is almost guaranteed to happen, without being helped by Sale with the lane chosen and the speed involved. There's nothing to stand on for overturning a no goal on the ice call.
Congrats team Czechia for capitalizing on the power play, clinching a spot playing for a medal this year.
Unreal that our 3rd round pick just did that against team Canada. It was also a great sequence by Jiricek. My favorite part about him is the desire for the puck during key moments. That was a quality I really liked about young Fabbri in St. Louis. At any rate, the more games Jiricek can play in this tournament, the better. I can see this being very redeeming for him, and he can carry that confidence back to the OHL.
You are just salty Canada lost, Štancl 4th liner my ass, he is middle 6er at worst more likely top6 power forward. You played like goons and you´ve lost like goons and if Mrtka, Bádinka and Benák were there, you would get completely annihilated.I could see a Stancl, Pekarcik, Jecho fourth line in the future, and that's making me hot.
Welcome aboard the Jiricek hype train, one and all.
I love love love that he was who they put out there with the game on the line. Well, him and the remainder of our 23-24 draft classes. My goodness.

Yeah, some of the roster decisions need to be questioned. And why was Dave Cameron brought back as coach? He’s never seemed impressive.I feel bad for Canada. I tend to root for them over the us despite being a us person.
A lot of the other nations seem to have a stronger team building concept behind their junior programs where Canada seems very “political” with conventions between junior powerhouse teams and agents.
I think it will be important for Canada to adjust slightly to include more team building stuff and probably cut through a little of the political stuff to get the best kids on the team.
The chl should empower Canada to dominate junior hockey due to all the reps the kids take but if you aren’t putting the best kids on the team or building that team then yeah.
I liked Yager. Small but seems legit. The Jets are so solid.
