What do you think of Molendyk’s NHL potential? He’s been one of the few Canadians that has looked like a player in the two games I’ve seen.Be game of thrones shame all over again for those players.
I agree with this. As a way of redirecting this back to our current prospects and the World Juniors, I think Army is building this team like an investment portfolio with intentional diversification of assets rather than putting all of his eggs in one basket. He has to be happy with the number of players that have represented their countries on this years' and last years' stage.Seems like I ruffled some feathers by suggesting Pietrangelo wasn’t a top-10 player in the NHL in 2019. Suffice it to say he wasn’t in the top-20 in Norris Trophy voting that year. I can see an argument for him being a top-10 defenseman, but a top-10 player, I don’t see it. Criminally underrated, yes, excellent yes, indispensible for our run yes, but top 10 no. If anything, Binner had the stronger argument that year, as he finished tied for 10th in Hart Trophy voting. But he didn’t keep that up.
Pronger was a perennial Norris threat. Brett Hull was a perennial Rocket Richard threat. If you don’t see a gap between Crosby and Ovechkin and someone like O’Rielly, or Cale Makar and Pietrangelo, then I can’t help you.
By definition, someone will be a #1C, a #1D, and a #1 goalie on this team in the future. They will play in situations befitting of those roles, and in all likelihood they’ll be pretty good, maybe even elite at it. But unless we get really lucky with development, or someone drops well below their ability in the draft for some reason, we probably won’t have a top-10 player in the league. I don’t think that’s a death knell for our chances, nor do I think it’s worth tanking to get someone of that caliber because as we saw with Erik Johnson (and a dozen other examples around the league), a top-5 pick is not even a guarantee that you get one.
If the argument is “we should get better players than the ones we have,” well, yeah, that’s always the goal. But I like the path we’re on, and I think the guys we have coming can be successful without needing to pay or lose a ton to get one of those big-name guys. It’s not something this ownership group wants obviously, and I can see the logic.
But we haven’t even started arguing about whether Army pushed him out or he wanted to leave yet!Im fine with the backnforth everyone wants to do w/Petro once more, but can ya'll move it out of the WJ thread. Im here to hear about how our prospects are doing.
He ended up with 2nd most ice time on Czechia in 3rd. But they were rolling their D fairly evenly and with all the special teams it did seem like he went long stretches without seeing ice.Is it just me or has Jiricek hardly touched the ice in the 3rd?
The guy isn’t very big but he may be one of the best skaters in the W. I think his wheels get him to the nhl. He will hit you and he seems to have that ability to come away with the puck. Good prospect. What do you think of Molendyk’s NHL potential? He’s been one of the few Canadians that has looked like a player in the two games I’ve seen.
That was Latvia Canada had problems with.Dvo has two in the first period versus the Canadien nightmare.
Dvorsky having himself a nice game.
Dvorsky’s stated reason for playing in this tournament was to help Slovakia get past the Quarterfinals. He may have single-handedly saved them from relegation.I’m not sure Slovakia beats Kazakhstan without Dvorsky. Everything outside of our two prospects is pretty rough. And I don’t think Pekarcik could generate near at this level without Dvorsky there too.
