I think from what i have seen, that type of goal is the exact type of goal or i hirvonen will score in the NHL if he makes it. He’s not overly skilled, he’s going to have to win 1 on 1 battles. But that’s exactly how Hyman has made a solid career. I really see similar qualities to Andreas Johnson. Will likely be a guy that can play up and down the lineup, but will never wow you with anything.

What a play by Hirvonen on the GWG. First the set up and then the wrap around... He does alot of little things that impact a game, not unlike Zach Hyman and going back a bit further Leo Komarov.

Fun fact:

This years world juniors breaks a 9 year streak for the leafs having at least 1 Swedish prospect in the tournament (2012 tournament to the 2020 tournament).

Although Hirvonen was drafted ahead of Niemela, I see Topi as having a much better upside.
He is a Marner type passer in my opinion...he gets pucks to linemates in traffic all the time...and he is so smooth skating..
it's just a question of size and strength as to whether he will be in the NHL.

Really happy for Hirvonen. He's had a very solid tournament but literally couldn't buy a goal. Finally gets one at the most opportune time.
Love seeing Leafs prospects go far with their teams.

I just want to say that Craig Button is absolute garbage at calling hockey games. I had to mute my TV multiple times during the game because of his long-winded anecdotes.

Oh and Niemela is fantastic. Looking like an absolute steal already.

Hirvonen was due. Could've had 3-4 goals in the tournament already
Had a really good tournament so far minus the finish.
I am more higher on Niemela even before his exceotional performance here, but really like what Hirvonen too.
Just needs to get a step quicker and of course stronger

No wonder Sweden has lost so many times this year.

So, if Canada and the US both win, US gets the easier game against the Finns?

I haven't watched or followed these Finnish players before and really wouldn't have known them from Adam

I did keep and eye out for Niemela in today's game and was quite impressed.

I hadn't been watching for Hirvonen (sp?) but he really jumped out at you and you couldn't ask for more.

This is a very nice start for the Leafs' 2020 draft class. Let's hope for more of the same:)

that back up goalie is someone’s son. He has a name bro. I can’t spell it but he has a name

Abramov gets no love. Without him there is no depth in that Russian team and it was clearly visible today

Just watch he'll be scratched for the semi's because he got suspended only to dominate the Bronze medal game.

I really love what I've seen from Niemela, but in no universe is he a Marner like passer. That is not even an accurate stylistic comparison.

The best part of Niemela's game is actually his defense and aggressive gap control. The offense is very unlikely to translate to the degree that it has in this tournament, not that anyone should care. Points are an overrated aspect of a defenceman's game.
