Typical hockey Canada over thinking picks, if you don’t play u16,17, or 18 national teams with us you very rarely get picked now a days.

Love to see it for Latvia and actually kind of love to see it for Team Canada and all this hockey politics that seem to be involved in choosing roster. I was at Finland game night 1, Canada had (has) nothing in the offensive zone, they are 1 and done, no playmaking or notjing… and don’t get me started on Oliver bonk running the PP…. Guy gets his shot blocked 100% of the time

At this point, I don't want Yak in there. Cameron is not coaching those players to their strengths, and nearly all of them look worse than they are. That's not good for the kids on that team. And playing in Ottawa and the Canadian (and Ottawa) presence and pressure....feels like an implosion waiting to happen.

And the penalties....one thing they had preached for the last 25-30 years in this tourney, is stay out of the box. Watch your stick. Watch your emotions. Don't talk back or upstage the refs. And there was a lot of stupidity out there last night. I get that Latvia played an amazing and disciplined game that frustrated the hell out of TC....but that coaching staff and leadership core had no control of that bench at all. They really need to get that turned around in a hurry. There is no way to get an easy route to the finals now. There is no wiggle room.

It's just one loss but yeah. This is why people were complaining back at the start of December about some of the omissions.

It's not like Team Canada completely dominated. A lot of puck watchers allowing Latvians to get free looks on goal despite claims they couldn't take more talented guys on the roster for defensive deficiencies or whatever.

They have a powerplay goal but that had to be a perfect shot.

We could have used talent at even strength, on the powerplay and in the shootout. Instead...

This is a good example of when they pick too much skill & not enough muscle. Over 80% of goals in the NHL & I would guess is the same in most leagues are scored from about 6" from the net. Skilled players like to skate around the perimeter with the puck & Latvia just let them do it & collapsed inside when they needed to. The vast majority of the shots were from the outside & we also saw a lot of individual play from players who are used to doing things themselves & they didn't use their teammates at times when they should have. Canadian teams in the past have had a few big guys causing havoc all over the ice with their hitting.

I saw the same thing with the 67s (Cameron's junior team) a lot of skill & not much muscle & Barrie manhandled them with their size & wore them down over three periods. Interesting that #9 for Latvia got the winning goal, he's a big guy who seemed to be all around the net during the game & got a goal in the game & the winning SO goal. Why didn't Cameron have Porter Martone in front of their goalie during PPs? Didn't see a lot of net presence with this team. On an all-star team losing one player, especially a guy who has yet to be drafted should not affect the entire team. I expect them to bounce back, but they have lost their aura of invincibility & other teams won't be as enthralled with them any more. This is the beauty of sports any team at any time can over come & beat another team regardless of how much better they are or are suppose to be.

I sure didn’t see much skill, and this team picked grinders to play more the way you like/describe here and they showed nothing - no grit, no physicality etc.
