kid really thinks he’s the main character. he’ll fit right in with the leafsWhy wouldn't they have Luchanko, who scored on a breakaway in the game, out for the shootout? Couldn't do worse than Cowan who looked like he got lost on the way to the net.
Might be a storyline hockey Canada brass think the team can rally around. Crowd would react and maybe it has legs and if Yak performs well could be a story that carries the team through the tournament.Would be pretty surprising considering they didn't even invite him to camp.
Feel like Parekh would be the more likely emergency callup since he already was the first call as a replacement camp invite.
That top line is not a traditional top line.Top line has been completely invisible.

This is a good example of when they pick too much skill & not enough muscle. Over 80% of goals in the NHL & I would guess is the same in most leagues are scored from about 6" from the net. Skilled players like to skate around the perimeter with the puck & Latvia just let them do it & collapsed inside when they needed to. The vast majority of the shots were from the outside & we also saw a lot of individual play from players who are used to doing things themselves & they didn't use their teammates at times when they should have. Canadian teams in the past have had a few big guys causing havoc all over the ice with their hitting.
I saw the same thing with the 67s (Cameron's junior team) a lot of skill & not much muscle & Barrie manhandled them with their size & wore them down over three periods. Interesting that #9 for Latvia got the winning goal, he's a big guy who seemed to be all around the net during the game & got a goal in the game & the winning SO goal. Why didn't Cameron have Porter Martone in front of their goalie during PPs? Didn't see a lot of net presence with this team. On an all-star team losing one player, especially a guy who has yet to be drafted should not affect the entire team. I expect them to bounce back, but they have lost their aura of invincibility & other teams won't be as enthralled with them any more.
They looked small, rarely hit, caused no chaos in front of the net & their forechecking was unimpressive. Latvia just let them skate around the perimeter & collapsed when they needed to. Canada continued to shoot from the outside & didn't get to the net very much. Even Johnson pointed it out that there were three guys at the other blue line looking for a stretch pass & nobody was back to help defend.I think this is funny given how much time was spent by Hockey Canada crafting the bottom 6 to not be skilled and instead be 200ft grinders who can forecheck. Hockey Canada left off skill, they left off goalscorers, they left off PP QBs to give you what you want. Muscle over skill.
How did the physicality and forecheck look last night against Latvia? Must have been just off camera the entire night. Anyone at the game to confirm this?

Sennecke should be there
So I guess you could say "size, toughness, blah blah" is a state of mind, not really a physical thing?Right and this roster left off goalscorers and other talented players with supposed defensive deficiencies specifically because they were worried about what happened with Latvia last night.
And the 200ft players who were willing to play defense achieved what against Latvia tonight? Latvia had 2 powerplay goals. Latvia had some good chances at even strength too.
What has Hockey Canada achieved leaving top talent at home in favor of the "200 foot game, intangibles, defense!" players they picked?

Assuming they were thinking, I imagine they were looking past both Latvia and Germany to the U.S game.Well, safe to say they were looking past this game last night.
Bring on Germany, Canada wins it!!!! BOOK IT!
