I get that, but when the gap is 10 months and there is an additional season it is worth repeating when people make those kind of heavy positions. Lafreniere should be ahead right now and I guess for the crowd that thinks he is Ovie good okay, I don't. Some of this is projecting forward on their tools.

I think you are looking at people thinking lafreniere is by far the best in the draft, as a slight to byfield. It is not. I think byfield is a fantastic prospect. I just think laf is another animal. I thought that before the wjc and the tournament has just reaffirmed it to this point.

If you want to talk about age gaps and how that is an advantage for him, then you may want to talk about how he won the chl player of the year in his D-2 beating out all draft eligible players. All were older than him.

You're talking comparable and upside?

If Laf isn't available and Byfield is, you have to think yzerman is taking the center.
I'd say both comparable and upside.

I can't imagine Yzerman passing him at No. 2.

Veleno suspended

More reason to root for Big Mo! Put a dagger into Canada lol

Several egregious boarding penalties from the Czech team on the Germans that were “properly” punished with a ten minute major, but a head butt that barely contacted the visor of a player warrants a full game suspension?

I hope Joe laughed at the IIHF official who broke the news.

Canada loses 6-0. Velano suspended. And now I hear our genius captain never took his helmet off for Russia’s anthem. The Russian captain pointed to his helmet and refused to shake his hand in the lineup. Omg. Where is the coaching and management

U-S and A takes out Russia. Nick Robertson and Arthur Kaliyev are putting together a real nice tournament.

This has to be the most wide open tournament I've seen. I think Sweden, Finland, Russia, U.S. or Canada (I'm not willing to bury them like their own fans) could take it all. The Czechs make a nice dark horse contender. This is going to be fun to watch!

Veleno being suspended might be good so that Seider doesnt end up killing him. Watching Germany is hilarious, hes so much bigger and stronger than everyone on the ice. he absolutely killed a guy against the Czechs. Pretty sure he got a penalty but it was one of those international game hitting too hard type of penalties and would've been fine in the NHL.

I've been way more impressed by him than I have been with Byram considering Byram was supposed to be clearly in a class of his own for dmen last draft

I’m so happy with Seider to this point. I was admittedly disappointed with the pick because I didn’t know a damn thing about the kid. But I withheld judgement and to this point it’s looking like a FANTASTIC pick.

I didnt love the pick I was very much wait and see on it. Ive waited long enough and seen enough to know it looks like a really solid pick. A lot of scouting reports and things didnt talk about how mean he is out there though which I think has made fans like him even more.

He looks like the wings have found a Vladdy replacement finally. Fischer looked like he could be that guy but it never happened. Hopefully Seider becomes a Vladdy or a Pronger type. High expectations to hit but those are his comparable players to me anyways

Maybe a less offensively gifted Pronger? I'm not fully convinced he will be a PP1 player at his peak but I wouldn't rule it out either as he doesn't even turn 19 until April.

I assume you mean the one game against the USA, because Lafreneire was getting boat raced like the rest of Canada until the net drive that ended his participation in that game against Russia. Dominant against the USA for sure though.

On the CHL thing great. I still remember the majority of scouts were taking Hughes if they had to choose last year between those two. I still don't know where this almost borderline generational talk is coming from all of a sudden at times this year. I think he is a good player, sorry I don't want to saint the guy. I will be happy if the Wings get him, I don't think he stacks up with other recent first round picks is a part of what I am getting at and this other animal talk is confusing to me. I think he is better than Kakko, again I like Svechnikov more in terms of recent wingers that have come through the draft. We will see where the rest of the year goes. We are going to need a center to really make this thing work though, I am pretty sure of that. I mean I like Rantanen and Huberdeau a lot, two players he reminds me a ton of, I wouldn't call either guy the best player on their team.

I think he will go #1, I will pretty much always have the settle down reaction to waxing poetically about him. This isn't a Matthews level prize draft, thankfully it isn't Yakupov, Nugent Hopkins or Hischier either. I think he is more in the middle of that picture than this different animal you keep describing. Byfield being a poormans Malkin doesn't get him to the upper echelon either if some think I think that. I would gamble more on his potential, but I think the guy with probably the highest ceiling is Askarov in terms of being capable of being the best player in the world at his position. I would never take him over Lafreniere or Byfield though just on value.

That kind of action is pretty much always punished by the IIHF.

One of the reasons it was uh oh that was a headbutt as soon as you saw it.

when I said “different animal” it was in comparison to byfield. Not Mathews. I agree we will need a center, I would say a center better than Larkin too. Hopefully we suck again next year because their are some badass centers coming out. We’ll probably end up taking stutzle or askarov 4th anyway. With our luck.

That was a headbutt?! Yeah ok! If that is a headbutt pretty much every player in every game needs to be suspended as they all have move their heads slightly forward.

Any news on the Russian player! Hope he is ok, as I heard he might need a triple brain transplant after that brutal head shot he took!
