he's a highly touted offensive blue liner but it was almost like he was just as much a lock as any of the big 3/4(if you count Ouellet) other d-men. From most things i've read he was bad in camp, he didn't do anything in the blue-red scrimmage i watched and i thought he was the worst pairing along with Koekkoek in the OHL vs Russia game he played in. He also sucked in the summer Canada vs. Russia challenge. Murphy is lucky Spott is the coach as far as i'm concerned. I obviously hope he plays well because i want Canada to win but I think a guy like Corrado deserves a spot on the team more with the performances he's had throughout the year in Sudbury, at the Russia vs. OHL games and at camp here being one of the top D standouts. whatever, i just hope our prospects play well and stand out

I would say that decision has more to do with packing some heat for the critically important pp's in this tournament than it did with taking the defenceman who played better. Lots of capable defenceman on the roster but none of them can run a powerplay like Murphy so who cares if he's not great defensively.

Yeah it's pretty stupid that Corrado got cut after scoring twice and playing a pretty good game. He should be on the team, as annoying as the Canuck fans may be.

the problem is he has sucked offensively too. i hope he helps us out like i said but don't think he deserved to make the team. it's not like that D needs any help creating offense anyway since Rielly is such a ****ing stud

appreciate the answers guys ! I've never been a fan of d-men that don't play D, regardless of how good they are offensively

i think people hate on murphy becuase A) he is very enigmatic (not even game to game.... more like shift to shift lol B) he isnt a team 1st leader type of guy

still gotta say i still like having him (on the rangers), since depspite inconsitant effort he does have some stretches of brilliant play, basically i think he is mike green 2.0

Considering the importance of the pp it would be bad coaching to not bring along insurance. Especially for a seventh d-man

It will be interesting to see if the big ice surface helps or hurts Murphys game this tournament.

On one hand having all that ice and room should allow him to be a factor offensively every game but at the same time it really could expose his defensive shortcomings.

Looks like our goaltending is gonna be our downfall. Disappointed Brossoit did not make the cut. Quellet is a surprise. Overall, this is a stacked team. RJH/McKinnon will have to be sharp.

Saying Murphy sucked in the Canada/Russia summer series is stretching it. He was both good and bad in that series and I remember distinctly one game were he was prolly the best player on the ice between both teams.

This is probably why they rotate coaches from the different junior leagues, the bias they bring.

Shortly after Brossoit surrendered no goals in a 30-minute stint for Team Canada against a group of Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) All-Stars, he reckoned he was handling the pressure well, actually.

“I felt good,†he said. “I felt like the goals that did get past me were not my fault.

“To only let in two the whole camp, I’m happy about that, too. I felt, technically, I was in position. My feet felt good under me, I felt and I felt like my rebounds were under control.â€

Many observers believed Malcolm Subban of the Belleville Bulls was pencilled in as the No. 1 goalie from the start. Whether that proves true or not, he certainly made the team.

The other two goalies will be Jordan Binnington of Owen Sound and Jake Paterson of the Saginaw Spirit. All three are OHL goalies, for what that’s worth.

Now that you mention it your right, he had one good game where he was all over the ice. Hopefully he can bring his A game but him and Lipon are the only selections I don't really like. I can totally understand why he's on the the team but don't think he deserves it

I'm so tired of hearing about the "OHL bias". Malcolm Subban is the clear number 1. There's no way you could justify cutting Paterson who was perfect in camp. Binnington had an average camp but he has been excellent this year in the OHL and shuts down Spott's team everytime they play each other. He's also just a better goalie than Broissoit who struggled in the summer series and is also inconsistent.

They made the right choices.

I really wanted Wilson on this team. Need a big hitter, but I suppose his skating could be an issue on big ice. Hopefully Camara fills the role.

Also, as happy as I am that Dumba got cut, I'm pissed Murphy is there. He's there because Spott has a hard-on for him. He has it in Kitchener too, from what I've seen. Corrado would have been a much better option.

I would have even taken Sproul over Murphy if they wanted another offensive Dman but whatever. Go Canada go!

Give me a break. He's there because he's an excellent prospect and deserved to make it.

I'm actually sooooo tired of the hate he gets.

Are you serious? Brossoit is awful.

I think Hunter should be there instead of Hudon, he's way too slow for the large ice surface.

RNH is named captain. Super! I thought it would be Jenner, but I'm happy to have the Nuge wearing the C.

Why would Murphy be on the first PP unit with Hamilton when Rielly is already playing on the top pairing with Hamilton? I'd keep them together.

Murphy has made the team for his offense and he is almost best served as a PP specialist for Team Canada.. What is the use of a PP offensively gifted player to be on the team if not for the PP?

I expect his ES minutes will be limited dependent of the score of the game.. Only if Canada is behind would I expect even strength TOI/g minutes to increase when it needs his offense.

I'm confused here, and I don't seem to be able to find an explicit answer anywhere.

Has the rosters been expanded this year to include a 3rd-string goalie, or are we just going with three for the exhibition games and will cut one before the tournament proper begins?
