I grew up playing soccer before getting into hockey in junior high. My mom is English and my dad was Air Force. Stationed all over the world. I like soccer but I can't stand the embellishment. Makes it difficult to watch. It would be better if it was hockey tho.

With penalties I dont mind. Without some embellishment, you dont get it. Simple as that. You cant expect that a player keeps standing when you know a penalty is an almost sure goal.

I have more problems with how easy refs give freekicks nowadays. The game/tempo is ruined by it.

I love playing it, can't stand watching it, mostly for that reason. And god knows I tried the last couple years, during the lockout.

Never saw as a one-sided game as NED over CRC and still needed penalty kicks to decide the game.

I grew up loving the game and playing it every chance I got. With Johan Cruyff (NL) as my hero and I watched Premier league "soccer" broadcasted by Swedish tv program every saturday. In those days we had three tv channels . I felt English soccer in those days were a hard and no fear and most of all honest game on the planet. I tried to play the game the same way, hard and no quitting or fear that was the way and I loved it. After games I had bruises and I played in shorts on gravel as a defender, not smart I know but I showed everybody I had no remorse and the scare's that I still have are just a reminder for me how much I loved it, to play soccer. Anything else than shorts gave me just a feeling of my movement got restricted so I never went away from shorts. At the age of 33 my days in soccer were over I had an knee injury that I couldn't come back from. I tried a couple of times but the medics told me that the surgery was successful but too much damage so everything beyond was a high risk. Golfing days started.

Why do I tell you this??

Because I have such a hard time watching soccer with all the diving and embellishment that I really lost all of my interest for it. The European championship (year idk) with Greece as the worst diving and embellishing team of them all tipped the scale for me, from that day it just died for me.

I once loved Holland and their team and always rooted for them but last night I really wished Costa Rica who was not close to NL's level would send them home crying.

Robben's embellishment is so disgusting that I'm lost for words. I know he was pulled down a lot and free kicks were correctly given but not all of them and the way he acts is just the opposite of all I once loved. You play hard but be honest about it.

Holland deserved to win since they were dominating but the acting I want it punished.

I am sorry but this is too ridiculous for words.

Does he (Robben) dive, yes, does he often make it look worse, yes definitely.

Though this game he was attacked multiple times. If you dont see that, than your are just a hater. I still remember that supposed dive in the game vs Mexico when afterwards that Mexican player had broken his leg....

Robben is a great player, kept going for 120 minutes and is a joy to watch and than people are going to cry about some supposed embelishment..unbelievable.

I started watching hockey because of some of the reasons you just said (too much diving, acting, embelishment in soccer) but if you are honestly going to say that Robben was diving last night and that you rather would have seen that Costa Rica would advanced after THAT ANTI FOOTBALL ??, than I just dont know what to say anymore. Especially after the game he played again. He has played great for 5 straight games already, something you rarely see in soccer.

But yeah, Costa Rica-Argentina would have been a great semi's....

I never said anything about him playing bad and I did confess my love for Holland from my younger years. There is no hate against Holland as a team from my side but I hate the fact that Robben's embellishment drew yellow cards that were not deserved and that is the way the game is played today, get free kicks that are a result of acting and his team benefits because of it but it is dishonest. Robben is a fantastic soccer player but why does he need to be dishonest.

If you mean attacked like Rodrigues against Brazil you are not even close. There was a lot of embellishment on both sides in NL-CR but for once I would like to see a star taking distance from that behavior. I do react the same way in every game I see a pattern were some players are throwing themselves every opportunity given and Robben does it a lot.

Your Mexico reference idk what you mean?

If you read what I wrote you would see that it is the dishonesty that I can't take. I ****ing hated Maradona for his "Gods Hand" and I still thought he was one of the best ever.

Please don't tell me most of the world is dishonest and get used to it BECAUSE I NEVER WILL AND THAT IS THE WAY I WAS RAISED BY MY PARENTS AND THAT IS HOW I TAUGHT MY CHILDREN and I'm proud of it. Not that you did but if you should.....

I just cant believe that you still think Robben wasnt molested last night and the yellow cards were a result of him acting. Than you just dont understand it, I am sorry. At one point TWO players of Costa Rica tackled him, and one of them hit him full on his ankle. That was just one moment.

Does he make things look worse, yes, but he cant play the game because they wont let him to.

Whats even more annoying, if you look at the whining and wasting of time by Costa Rica, but nobody talks about that, people still talk about Robben and his supposed embellishment...

Look at that goalie for instance, got a hand in his face and was lying on the ground for minutes. That's something you should talk about, not when Robben's ankles are getting destroyed..

Currently its popular to talk smack about him, even when he plays a fair game like last night. This is totally ridiculous.

The double tackle was a crime and rightfully punished and I wouldn't say Robben was embellishing on that hit since he had no time or room to chose "flying path" but there were several other occasions were he did dive and embellish. For example this one on the left side when he felt he couldn't reach the ball it was to far ahead and simultaneously he had an defenders arm right in front of him, he grabbed the arm and did a double flip in the air. Result was a yellow card to...Acosta? and then Sneijder's free kick hitting the post and if you didn't notice it or didn't see it, you must have been watching a bad broadcast without replays.

The rest of destroying of the game is just another part that annoys me as well but in the heat and moisture they are playing I could be more forgiving.

Navas was ridiculous and I agree but saying Robben played a fair game..no. He didn't play reckless but fair ... no. He is an exceptional player and I see you have the Dutch flag which makes me believe that if you saw another player doing it against your team would make you change the tune a little bit. You said it yourself you started to watch hockey since there was so much diving and embellishment in soccer. It is when the result of embellishing is giving the team benefits it pisses me off, he can do it since he is the star and that leaves the ref with a doubt and most of the time gets awarded. He takes advantage of it but it is dishonest no matter how you see it..no not fair.

Currently I cant remember the freekick and yellow of Acosta. I have to check that again.

If we are going to talk about cards, than I wonder why Diaz didnt get his 2nd yellow when he hit Robben again in the 93th minute. As reminder, that was the van Persie free kick with van Persie hitting the crossbar right thereafter.

The free kick of Sneijder was rightfully given (the post). I think that's the problem how we both watch the game. Robben beats the defender and he grabs him. What do you expect Robben to do ? That's a clear mistake, if the referee is going to swallow the whistle on that, than we can better stop. You may call that diving because he goes to the ground (that's soccer), but its still a fault. That defender should not be using his hands, simple as that.

Wait a minute you can't remember the freekick but then you tell me the defender grabbed Robben??

The defender never tried to grab Robben he had his arm in front of Robben who had no chance of getting to the ball with or without the defenders arm in front of him it was too far ahead. Robben grabbed the arm and then made it look like he was grabbed by throwing himself and the ref fell for it. He lost the ball and didn't beat the defender, Acosta I believe. Don't believe me check it out.

Second yellow to Diaz, ref chickened.

I was talking about Gonzalez (Sneijer freekick).

The Acosta thing I cant remember currently.

Two different happenings.

As a big netherlands fan and a huge Robben fan, he dives to much. But my god he is an amazing player. Second half of extra time he is still running and dribbling past defenders, world class talent. Just wish he wouldnt embellish as much.

Unfortunately diving is part of the game. Had Robben's embellishment not led to a goal no one would be saying anything right now.

At the moment, Kobe Bryant's pick of Brazil vs Argentina has 25% chance of happening, as of this writing.

Nah.

I know what you are saying, in terms of pure randomness, that is correct.

But Brazil is down two starters for the semi-final and even though Germany has been less than impressive so far, they probably have the upper hand on Tuesday.

I can't see anyone beating the Netherlands, at all. They put people to sleep with their ball possession. They had Costa Rica in a headlock most of the game yesterday.

I'd say the odds are practically nil these two teams survive the semis.
