Very entertaining game.

No lack of excitement here, hitting, great goals, great saves and of course a penalty shot.

Obviously Tkachuk was the star of the game but others impressed me too.

I thought Kovalev looked great in the first 2 periods. He was creating chances and taking the body. It was basically one of his shifts that upped the phycal intensity for the rest of the game. But then in the 3rd he kinda disappeared...

I would have liked to have seen a little more Ovechkin because now we might not see him until after Christmas...

I started a topic on this last night but it was ruined as usual. This World Cup is a joke.
This opinion would change is the USA won the whole thing..... :joker: (just kidding, don't go mark madden style on me!)

Its a good line though..but your right they need more production from the rest...especially weight and amonte...
It's a great line, I'm nervous every time they're out there because they're so good. But after that, there isn't much.

Totally agree... Having North-American referees is also somewhat fishy...

But unless the jetlagged Fins or Czechs cause an upset, the NHL and NHLPA will get their showcase CAN-USA final, which is really the point of the whole torunament. Give me the Olympics any day...

If you win, it's your superiority. If you lose, it's a conspiracy. I didn't hear you complaining that the Olympics didn't have some NHL refs so it was far to everyone. This is an NHL sponsored tournament, thus it uses NHL refs.

I love how you say it's going to be a CAN-USA final, which is "the point of the whole tournament".....and then ask for the Olympics, which was CAN - USA as well.

Maybe Canada and the USA are just putting together the best teams lately?

oh don't get me wrong, I hope the US wins, but this world cup is so boring that "The state of hockey" isn't even selling out games. The style of play is boring. Teams are missing lots of great players. Basically, (as i've stated in my closed thread), this world cup could have been way better.

So because the US cannot wrap their minds around hockey and enjoy it, the world cup sucks? Germany sold out.

WOW, that's two games. Yeah, keep on being cocky, all you canadians could be crying in your beers in up there in your igloos. I'm not being cocky, but then again neither should you. Upsets DO happen, numbnuts. :teach:

Very true. There is a big dropoff on the wing in terms of goal scoring once you get past the Super Line. Langenbrunner? Smolinski? Drury? They have decent track records but compare them to the second line wingers on Canada. Yikes? I wouldn't be surprised to see Hull be reinstated. He might be lazy and complacent but he still has that cannon of a shot.

no (as I said in my closed thread)

5 reasons why the world cup is colossally uninteresting

#1. NHL Refs
#2. NHL Rinks
#3. Single Elimination
#4. Only 8 teams
#5. The Olympics are better

Is it just me or did the Russians pass up too many centered point shots for mini 2-on-1s down low on the power play. They were too fine sometimes.

Agreed. They also have a horrid powerplay. You can't skate into the offensive zone every time with the puck! A dump-in wouldn't be the end of the world.

And what infuriated me at the end was how when they finally did dump it in after they pulled Bryzgalov, they dumped it in on Esche...

Errm... the style of play isn't boring at all TO ME. I thought it was a fantastic, nail-biting game from start to finish. If these teams played each other 100 times, the record might be 50-50.

Way to not stoop to his level! The personal attacks make it even more convincing.

I'll admit, I thought the game was mildly entertaining only for a couple reasons.

1. It was Russia
2. The US actually scored
3. Brian Leetch is an idiot

I think he means that with the all NHL crews, there is probably room for some bias towards USA / Canada. I think if they switched this to a neutral site, or at least got refs from all over, it would prevent the crying about certain advantages, etc.

yeah, thats to prove my point that I'm not the only one who doesn't really care about this tournament.

I've heard as many complaints about the international refs. Fans are never happy about the refs.

Reilly311 said:

Valid complaint, although I don't mind the smaller ice surface.

So are the Olympics, so according to #5 this can't bother you much.

Reilly311 said:
#4. Only 8 teams

Again, unless you enjoyed the Hell out of watching Japan play Switzerland, #5 says this can't both you either. The real tournament starts after the lower teams make it to the next round for the honor of finishing 7th and 8th.

Reilly311 said:

Basically, only because of the ice size according to the rest of the post.

So when Canada DOES lose, will there be another "hockey summit" examining what is wrong with the game in Canada?

To me it looked a lot like the U.S. victory against Russia in the Olympics (with pretty much the exact same characters for the U.S.) .. except, of course, better and more physical... and with both teams leaving more on the ice. I don't find the World Cup a whole lot different from the Olympics, myself, except a tad better.

The U.S. vs. Canada game last week was one of the best hockey games I've seen in years...

Canada lose? :lol

Right now & for the rest of my life

I'm gonna hate DARIUS KASPARAITIS, is he -96 for the tournament ? GOD IT WAS AWFUL !!!!

I also don't want to hear about Sergei Gonchar. Mr. 60 pts who cost 150 goal for his team. I don't care if you were SUPER on 1 goal we did if you make 10 errors per game that would cost 2-3 goals.

Also WHAT ABOUT THE OBSESSION with Alexander Frolov, GOD, he look like Samuel Pahlsson & Jan Bulis. GREAT TALENT , NO FINISH !!!

My LOVE for the RUSSIAN TEAM is that WAY. LOVE IT OR HATE IT !!!
