Tweet sounds sarcastic, doesn't it?...as though he thought he should have been on the team and got screwed over.

IMO he should have been on the initial roster, but he was never going to play after the surgery so why be a dick about it? Really does seem to be a case of "kicking the dog while it's down" just to scire some cgeap internet points...

It was just a little bone chip and he had it for most of last season. He'll be ready to go for Training Camp...so maybe he could have also squeezed the WCH in there as well. Either that, or he is just pissed he wasn't put on the initial roster pre-surgery. Dunno. Funny tweet, though.

I don't worry about what Phil thinks of team USA why wait till they lose out to make that comment instead of making a comment earlier when the roster was put out?? Sounds like a chicken **** move to me

The Kessel tweet is incredible. Brian Burke and co. deserve to be ridiculed and humiliated

Only on EA bro. He will never sniff even a reserve spot in any meaningful tournament like this. Not now, not ever.

Now ask yourself..What is it that the whole professional hockey world sees that I don't :sarcasm:

And yes..I'm being a little sarcastic lol

Shouldn't that question include the team that traded a top prospect and a first for him? or the teams ready to sign him for 6+/6+?

or is that the stupid part of the hockey world, whereas the smart part does smart stuff like lose to Canada because it can't produce offense...

Team USA needs to get over the idea that they don't have skilled players and need to compete on grit and truculence.

Getting rid of Burke as a decision maker would be a good start. Not letting Tortorella be head coach would be another

I thought the coaching staff did a great job continuing to put out that stellar defensive pair of Buff and Johnson in the first period.

Wait is Dr. 'Orpik > Yandle' still behind this?

I haven't been paying all that much attention, did they seriously just leave Phil Kessel off the team?

If you mean Brian Burke yes he's still a "senior advisor"

Dean Lombardi was the team GM and I'm not particularly impressed

Paul Holmgren of "give lots of players bad contracts" Flyers fame also is on the management team

Yes they did.

Also Jack Johnson is so freaking terrible and yet he's a permanent fixture on these teams

Canada is also just better at hockey than the USA.

If they scrap the Team NA, Canada could have two teams, and have the two best teams in the tournament.

Current team:

Marchand-Crosby-Bergeron
Tavares-Getzlaf-Stamkos
Couture-Toews-Perry
Thornton-O'Reilly-Duchene
Giroux

Vlasic-Weber
Bouwmeester-Doughty
Pieterangelo-Burns
Muzzin

Price
Crawford
Holtby

Team 2:

Benn-Seguin-MacKinnon
Hall-McDavid-Simmonds
Monahan-Spezza-Scheifele
Lucic-Carter-Nash
Johansen

Keith-Subban
Giordano-Letang
Brodie-Ekblad
Seabrook

Dubnyk
Jones
Fleury

Poorly-constructed team with the wrong head coach.

Team USA needs to rethink their philosophy on how they build teams for these tournaments. You have to bring the most talented roster you can and assign roles to players later, instead of bringing players to fill specific roles because that's what they do in the NHL. Canada does this well. A great example is the way they've used Nash in the past. Yeah, he was one of the best goal scorers in the NHL, but on Team Canada, he was a defensive specialist.

It really doesn't help that USA hockey is in a lull in terms of players in their prime. I mean, Kesler and Backes were on the Silver medal team in 2010. They were 26. 6 years later, they still get named to Team USA and there's not much in the way of better centers to replace them with.

A few years back, on another site, there was a conversation about how the US has "caught up" with Canada. I basically said what you said, Canada can have a 2nd team that would be better then the USA's first team. We may have closed the gap a little at one time, but to say the US has "caught up," is way off. It's not so much the first team, but the depth behind it where the gap really widens.
