 This is very good description. I won't boycott it this time, although those who's ideas were Team Europe and NA U23 should be kicked out from sports forever, but if in 2020. they f****d it up again with this artifical teams, no way I am gonna watch a second.

And if this thing makes money and gets ratings, how do you think Gary Bettman and the league will respond? 2020 we are more likely to get more gimmicks, not less. and for added bonus, to add insult to injury, no NHL Olympics. That is why I won't be wasting a second on this tournament.

...hence the reason no one knows about it in most places in the Hockey World, let alone the sporting World.

what is the size of this "Hockey World", I don't want lists of countries, I want actual numbers, give me the number of people in "Hockey World" in Germany, in Russia, in Canada, the United States, other places?

Finland or others will not lose anything because of that. KHL president has said they wont block players from leaving for the tournament, they just will not stop the regullar season because of this tournament. Some players from scratches / farms will get ice time, nothing dramatic.

They will probably do it like that. Still, if I consider that Sobotka is 1st center in Omsk and Kempny 1st D, that's pretty harmfull for team. I dont even know whether there are any other players going to WC from for example Omsk...

That's until you see a strange, open sore on your body.

I follow international sports events and this doesn't come close. Won't be wasting my time.

I wouldn't even call this an international event since it includes teams that are not nations. They should have done some thing like the Rugby Six Nations Championships. Just have the top 6 countries and not have these gimmick teams. They can just say it is an invitational type event than call it a world cup. A world cup to me means that every country has a equal shot at winning it all, which this is not.

Would this World Cup still be considered gimmicky if instead of the two all-star teams, in their place was 2 other Team Canadas? (Canada would be fielding 3 teams in this case, just like it already does in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge)

I have absolutely zero interest in this farce of a tournament.

Whether Bettman likes it or not, the "World Cup" in hockey is the Olympics mens tournament, not this money grab by one league that I have no doubt is a deliberate challenge to IIHF's role in world hockey. The equivalent in soccer would be the English Premier League running the World Cup exclusively on their soil with their players, their rules, and their refs.

I think if they went with (Usa/Canada/Sweden/Russia) it would have been far more appealing.

It should be 8 teams. Slovakia is a major hockey nation and Switzerland is the fastest growing hockey power. Give them some respect. The 2004 World Cup had 8 teams this one should too. The Swiss are way stronger than Germany was back then, and are getting better every year.

Again...are we trying to increase exposure and interest in the game or not? Name a single World Cup of any sport that doesn't have a big difference in quality from the big boys to the little ones. The 6 nations is cool, but the WC of Rugby has 20 countries. Are they all capable of winning? Soccer has 32. Can New Zealand or Togo realistically win that? How about Great Britain at the Summer Olympics basketball?

By replacing the gimmick teams with Slovakia and Swizterland, you change the entire tournament and made it 100% valid, and the 13th best on best cup.

I don't care that it's NHL ice and NHL refs. Frankly, it should be. The 2 next Olympics will be in international ice and rules, and just about every World Championship is. Fair is fair. If the NHL players go to the next Olympics, that's a best on best every 2 years. 12 team Olympics on international ice, and 8 team World Cup on NHL ice. IMO that would be fantastic. I like having the World Championships in Europe and it's a big deal over there. Keep it that way.

Also, it's a minor thing, but as much as I like the regular team canada jerseys, I love keeping the big best on best tournaments with unique jerseys. Keeps them original and unique. You'll always know what cup/tourney it was.

How can you compare a kids development tourney to what the NHL is doing?

Winning it would have the same level of prestige.

What a stupid tournament.

I'll watch for it's entertainment value (it's hockey!), but I won't be emotionally invested, or put any value into the results.

This. Team Europe and NA U23 are stupid ideas, but it's still best players in the world playing against each other. I don't care about results, I just wanna see some good hockey.

If that is your mindset, you could just watch NHL games.

I do watch NHL games. And while there's no NHL games on, I'll watch World Cup. And while watching Penguins play is fun, sometimes it's nice to see for example Crosby play with star linemates.

This is going to be laughing stock of World Sport, a template for how international sports shouldn't be run by corrupt leagues.

The "World Cup" of hockey is what the NHL wants it to be. The Olympics mens tournament is meaningless if the NHL says we are not going. Just like the Olympics mens Soccer is.

If the NHL wants this to be the only best on best tournament then it will be. Everyone has to accept that.

That's the problem. It isn't best on best.
