What does Perlini have to gain to join Canada instead of Great Britain?? Like Canada needs help growing talent. :shakehead:

What is better than trying to grow the game globally???? And the best way is to have great players from nations who are not good (The Nowitzki effect he is having on Deutschland) and that gets the population interested of the sport. This is the best way to grow the game, so he (Brendan) is officially a traitor for joining Canada. Sadly Daniel Sprong is going to be known as a traitor as well.

Why's that? Has he decided to compete for the Dutch in International play?

In a THN article he said he wants to play for Canada, already declined to play for Dutch's WJC20 team.

Growing the game of hockey loses another one to a country who doesn't need him. :shakehead It's like being a 6 year old watching The Lion King's death scene on repeat.

Don't you think it's awfully unfair to place the burden of being a hockey embassador/being responsible for the game growing in their countries to kids younger than 18? And calling them "traitors", no less? They'll never win anything internationally playing for countries like Great Britain and Holland, or even play at a high level. I would imagine most players with ties to two countries would opt for playing at the highest level they can and with team mates matching their talent, especially when the contrast is so stark.

Why do you harbour the belief that these players should hold these altruistic ideals? Perlini or Sprong have no duty to help the development of hockey nations. That duty solely relies on the institutions and federations that run the sport domestically.

Plus, who are you to declare how Perlini and Sprong identity themselves? Canada has played a significant part in both their lives (Perlini has a Canadian family and has spent several years of his life in Canada). This isn't a Barkov situation where a Russian family had their son entirely grow up in Finland.

Even outside of what they identity with, they also have a career ahead of them. Both are good enough to play at the international level with Canada, which is exceptional. Not only do they get to play at the highest level (probably for the nation they identity with) but it also can't harm their development and exposure.

I would put myself before my country 100%. I don't associate myself anymore with a random strange hundreds of miles away than i do with an American accross the Atlantic ocean.

If you took some time to look at the IIHF's rules regarding dual-citizenship you'd know that Perlini most likely isn't even eligible to play for Great Britain.

Pretty even game between the Czechs and the US so far after the first period. Dylan Larkin was hurt early and hasn't come back yet. That'd be a big loss for the US.

It was USA 1 - CZE 0 at 1st INT. Matthews scored the opening goal during 4v4 play and it was fluky. He carried the puck in 2v2 and attempted a SOG, but a CZE defender got a stick to it, deflecting the puck skyward and behind an unsuspecting goalie. Larkin and Gersich picked up first period injuries, but both have returned. Larkin missed over half the first period but started the second, while Gersich missed one shift at most before returning in the first.

Milano has since made it 2-0 early in the second, as Eichel rushed in and circled the net before centering a pass to the goalmouth, and just now Connor has made it 3-0, as he found a loose puck after a Wegwerth net drive.

Matthews had a great 2nd period. I don't know why more people aren't talking about him. I know he isn't eligible until 2016, but he's simply excelled at every level he's played at this year despite always being the youngest player there.

Absolutely love Hanifin's backwards acceleration, he can get up to speed skating backwards as well as most guys can forwards. Combined with his sky-high hockey IQ and great stick work, he's a can't-miss prospect, and that's before you take his excellent offensive upside into account. Wonderful player.

Have liked Tuch's defensive game (wasn't expecting to), as well as the speed of Pastrnak and Vrana. I love Kyle Connor as well, for the first time I've seen him. I have ben very disappointed in Zacha, who looks very overwhelmed, but I guess he is one of the youngest players in the tournament.

Oh, can't believe it...2-2 between Canada and Germany in the second period. They probably will lose the game finally, nevertheless, may be the German team is not that bad I expected to be.

..now the third period has started and it is still 2-2. 17 against 28 shots for Canada.

It doesn't have the kind of talent it had in recent years when guys like Draisaitl, Kahun or F.Tiffels were playing. But there is a better depth than in previous years and overall it's more balanced between offense and defense.

I was a little disappointed that neither Maximilian Glässl nor Tobias Eder made the roster but obviously these kids are making a good job so far.

I have to agree. The depth in the defense seem to be quite good..

Horrible coverage this year. Not even highlights for most games...

with it being in Europe I really expected to be able to see some webcasts..and I also didn't realize if you missed the US games that you couldn't watch them later. Really disappointed. I really hope some games are posted on youtube at some point.

A couple of things...

1) Labeling teenagers traitors over a decision they have made in regards to something as relatively insignificant as sports is silly. In certain situations where someone chooses one team/country over another I can certainly understand people being disappointed and even frustrated but in the case of these two players is this really one of those 'situations'? I quick google search tells me Perlini's parents are both Canadian and while Perlini himself was born in GBR his family moved back to Canada when he was 11. By the time he plays an NHL game (an assumption at this point) a majority of his hockey development (if it hasn't already) will have taken place in Canada. Sprong has lived in Canada since he was 7. By the time he is drafted he will have spent 10+ years playing hockey in Canada.

2) Even if these two players go on to become good, even great, NHL players I think the impact they would have on hockey in GBR and NED would be at best minimal. I am not sure how many more people in either country are going to take an interest in hockey because a player who moved away before they were old enough to shave is playing in a league thousands of miles away for a team 5-9 time zones away. You could aurgue they could raise interest by impoving the quality of the NT but seeing as they would be playing in the NHL they could go the entire prime of their career without ever being available to play for it.

URGENT URGENT URGENT

Switzerland - Finland

Their must be a stream somewhere or it must be shown on Finnish TV. I can't believe that such a hockey nation doesn't stream/air their national team at home !

so if someone has a stream ... even that needs Finnish location ... let it know.

tks A LOT !

Virtanen with another 2 point game.

If he keeps this up, don't see any way that he falls out of the top 10. Some team will take a chance on him despite the "character concerns".

It's on pay tv. Finns don't really stream sports events. Game 3 of the Finnish league finals is going on right now (=more interest) and there's stream for that one but it's not very qood quality.
