Huh, that was a huge pressure from Canada late in the 2nd. I've got the impression most of the Czech players are pretty exhausted already. They will definitely come with total defense into the 3rd.

This second period was essentially about the match penalty. The Czech team scored two and Canada's game got disrupted for some 5 minutes after the PP ended. But in the last 5-6 mins Canada apparently found their rhythm again, so the game is by no means over.

Regarding the Czech team, the defensemen are all the difference compared to the August tournament. All of them except for Moravec, I believe, are returning players. They got stronger, more experienced, more confident. The forwards are basically still the same level like in the last 5 years or so, exactly as expected. But the D core just looks different so far.

I still have Fantilli ahead, but if Michkov plays great in Sochi and Fantilli has bad tournament here, he has good chance to slide back to second spot.

The amount of times I hear "Fantilli with the puck" then shortly after "Czechia goes the other way" is insane.

Guy needs to get off that second line - get a speedster like Ostapchuk on that line.

I think Canada needs to shorten the bench and just go balls out on us. I think it'd work.

You have no reason to panic. I don't think Swiss go further than Finland and I don't think Czechs go further than Canada. Game one means nothing. For me.. it'd be nice to see we have TWO wins in 30 years.lmao

Germany back then and Austria this years are completely different levels. Germany had several seriously talented players in 2014. This year's Austria has Reinbacher and Rohrer, and the latter is sick and didn't play vs. Sweden. Besides these two, they are simply a team which should be playing one division lower and they are there just due to a bizarre chain of coincidence we all know about. It is possible the Czechs won't win anywhere near Sweden's 11-0, but I am pretty confident about they will win.

Gaudreau was just absolutely awful. Yeah, that was obviously a very bad penalty, but you can’t have your goalie be that leaky.

From here you get at least 3-4 D's for your mens team in the future. With Jiricek and Svozil becoming great if staying healthy.
Kulich, Sale and a couple of other big bodied guys could also become something.
Add Necas, Pastrnak, perhaps Vrana and Hronek and some good goaltending (Dostal) and you will have a good team with the right coaching.

We have a strong history of upset and then losing an expected match here. Having said that.. I'll be much calmer watching the Austria game than this one. My heart rate through the roof and we're up 5-2.lol

Jiricek has been best Czech so far. Only bigger problem I can point out is that he forces his shot too much at times but otherwise he looks like he will be an NHL player by next year.
