GDT: [WJC] United States vs. Germany, 10PM EST 9/8/22

CTE? Really.... Head shots has been against the rules for years.... Also he didn't duck he lost an edge on his skates slpped to the ground as the germany player goes to make the check. Instead of making the check he goes to play the puck and doesn't get the penalty.
Hockey is a little too fast for you I guess...

No time for judging in that scenario for a player about to hit

That U.S goaltending isn't going to get it's first test tonight.

These are the sort of games where the starter will have to show he can stay mentally sharp. They won't get much work, would be easy to get lulled into a slumber and not be sharp on whatever chances the Germans do eventually generate.

This assumes they eventually generate some chances. This was NOT the game I was expecting out of them tonight.

I’m always hoping for a close game when I’m a neutral observer.

That said, the U.S. is doing what they should in this match.
If you watch the foot work when both teams are fighting for pucks in tight...

The Germans don't move their feet... wave sticks... mostly... they become static...

The U.S. players move their feet and their sticks... while adjusting position, fighting for position and puck...

The U.S. is certainly working for it and have talent.

I did say weenie IIHF...

I teach minor hockey and I teach those minors to protect themselves whether they give the hit or are taking it...

The IIHF leaves out any responsibility of the taker... unfair... should be an interpretation in their rules but their isn't...

The U.S. player made the mistake and McKenzie even knows it...

McKenzie essentially said "well the rule is structured this way... that's a penalty (sigh)" with his quote "Ref within his rights"... I am certain that McKenzie didn't like the outcome either...

It just makes the IIHF look bad.

I'll let it go now...

I just don't think the U.S. team needs help... nor should be rewarded for one of their players making an irresponsible move... it's that player's health on the line and he screwed up.

Btw that rule started as a NHL rule that the IIHF adapted to their own rules.. Even in the NHL, a similar like check can very well get the player tossed.

A lacrosse game broke out in front of the net - Knies hit Quapp in the head, Geibel hits Knies in the head... and neither one of them got called.

If an NHL player bailed like that... my thoughts would be the same...

Sure the Ref could call it... I watched a lot of NHL games this year and can't remember a player overtly bailing and then a call like that... I could be wrong there could be an event like that...

But the bailer puts themselves at risk because they leave no time for the checker to react... dangerous on the bailer's part... that's my point.

Even if this goal were completely legal I'm not sure they're allowed to overturn it. High stick(non goal) isn't reviewable. The ref called a high stick on stick on the Knies "pass" on the ice. If he high sticked it into the net that's reviewable. Other high sticks aren't reviewable I don't think
