One guy is the best player on his team in the 2nd best league in the world and responsible defensively, also a playoff performer and drives his own line

The other guy got fed by Hughes+Farabee all last season and is now struggling at the NCAA level without them. No hustle and irresponsible defensively, also relies on his shot too often

These WJCs are irrelevant for Wahlstrom. 3 months after being drafted, your biggest rival's fans have the final say on whether or not your prospect will ever be good. The masters (that's what we call Ranger fans over on the Isles board) tried the case fairly and the jury ruled him an absolute bust.

For an 18-year-old hockey player, that's it. Maybe start taking that college degree a bit more seriously because an NHL career is impossible once the masters make their ruling.
