What sucks is that, even though it wasn't much of a golden generation, Kazakhstan's golden generation was the 99 group. So they will get curb stomped far worse next year than they did this year.
How much worse can they be stomped next year? At worst there again will be one or two double digit losses and they will be relegated winless? It's pretty much in line with how most relegated teams perform at WJC. Why is everyone acting like Kazakhstan is that terrible?

Everyone watched both parts of Borat and think they know what Kazakhstan is about.

Well yeah, Brinkman and Sogaard are returnees, but then again, Rondbjerg and Setkov leaves, that is a second and a six(?) rounder, to be competitive they need both gamebreaking talent and some ok depth, right now there isn't anyone really intresting breaking through apart from a few u19 players playing in the swedish system.

Rondbjerg was selected in the third round, Setkov in the fourth.

When the disparity gets high enough, the score becomes less and less relevant because teams stop trying earlier and earlier.

They got 11 hung on them by the 2nd worst team in their group. That is actually terrible. And next year they'll be worse. Now, I'm not trying to diminish the pride they should have in whatever they've achieved. But they are clearly a level below even the level we have come to expect from relegation teams. It just so happened that Denmark is as well.

Because they have no kids in the CHL and that's how the "hockey world" knows you are good. Ask the next greatest hockey nation Belarus. Remember how Kolesnikovs was written in as a star of Latvian U20 team just because he scored some point in the QMJHL?

Swiss roster not outstanding either, but look what they did.

On one hand, you are right. On the other, it's a great accomplishment for those guys and Kazakh hockey overall to stay up, even if just for one year. Would it mean anything to Denmark? Not really. For the rest of the world? Not really. The only angry ones might be the Belarussians as they will face a tougher competition in D1A next year.

Gatiyatov deserves to get drafted.

Hell as I mentioned in a different post, there's a few of these Kazak kids that deserve some late round consideration.

Orekhov legit looks like a 3rd-4th rounder, both Daniyar's could be 7th rounders too. Even though he's playing amazing, and could be the team's MVP, not sure if Yeremeyev is draftworthy. Technically he is very flawed, but he does have raw skill. It's weird how almost every year some goalie from a small hockey nation comes in dominates, and rarely gets drafted. The love Yeremeyev is getting, and how he is keeping his team in it, reminds me strongly of WJC MVP Denis Godla, who also never got drafted.

Belarus should be weaker next year.

Oh my, Kazak goalie is doing it again and Danes are taking penalties, not generating shots now too, if Kazak's actually pull off this upset.

I could see Orekhov going between the 5-7th rounds. Not sure anyone else will be drafted.

The defenceman Daniyar looked pretty good, he could be a 7th rounder. Don't think the forward Daniyar will be drafted though.

A team may take a flier on Gatiyatov in the 7th round, but he's very small. Musorov could get drafted late too. My head tells me nobody from Kazakhstan will be drafted though.

Curious why would you think that? IMO however good/bad you think they are, is the level they will flatline at for considerable future. For whatever it is worth, Belarus U18 was in quarterfinals last spring, so is kinda hard hard not to view them as early favorites for promotion again next December at U20 level.

A team may take a flier on Gatiyatov in the 7th round, but that's not a guarantee. Same with the younger Musorov.

Guseinov and Musorov are likely the only ones who have a chance at getting drafted.

Gatiyatov is 19, I can see him going in the CHL draft but not the NHL draft. Same as the forward Daniyar.

The two KHL defenseman I can see someone looking at though, Daniyar d-man and Orekov have skated circles around some of the lesser players at this tournament (Looking at you St. Ivany)

Funny how everyone thought these games would be a blowout for Denmark because of three players who underachieved all tournament, VS essentially one of the best Russian jr teams plus two KHL dudes. Woops.

What? No way. We must be watching different teams. Orekhov is a legit prospect, I've had the pleasure of seeing him in the KHL as well and he continues to get better.

This is the sensible opinion. Much smarter for GM's take a flyer on random Swedes that more likely than not will find a pro team which will allow them break through at the senior level unlike these Kazakh kids which will pretty much have nowhere to go after they "graduate" from MHL.

I'm not surprised about Yeremeyev. He was fantastic against Finland, stopping 51 of 56 shots under constant pressure. He had a few rotten minutes against Slovakia but has been solid otherwise.

I mean, for most of them yeah, but one of the Daniyar cousins got called up to Barys before this tournament (Hasn't dressed yet though) and Orekov has been there two years and puts up points as a 19 year old. Some of these kids, unlike the 09 team will have career options.

Cause they are losing Grischenko, Deryabin, Sapego, Yeryomenko, Zuyev, Drozdov, Martynov and Sushko.

Yes, but that was only the 1st game, he hasn't been as good since except for the last game, he has consistency issues, also probably tired from facing so many shots.

Yes way, they are the only ones listed as potential NHL picks, it's very easy to get carried away by an event like this.

Orekhov is in his second KHL season so he could continue there or come to the AHL.

I'm not sure where Gatiyatov goes. He's dominating the MHL. I don't think he's at the point where he could play in the KHL yet, so maybe he goes the CHL route as an overage player for a year and reevaluate after that?

Musorov makes sense for me because he's relatively productive in the MHL as a 17 year old and could come to NA and play in the CHL or USHL, or stay another year in Kazakhstan and come over after that. Gives a team more options and control.

Wow, Kazakhs are going to do it, they managed to shut down Denmark's offense, what a performance, Denmark I feel for them, what a day for Kazazkhs and hockey.
