For the parents I speak to, everyone can afford it however 9 year olds are being told to take the body in a non-contact league if they can't keep up speed wise. Winning is more important than sportsmanship, makes it tough for parents who just want their kids to go out and have fun.

Parents I know are avoiding it due to safety concerns.
Well if a coach is telling kids to take the body in a non contact league then he has no business coaching

Having grown up playing in the 80-90s at a pretty high level and now watching my sons games.....I can say with 100% certainty that the game today for the kids is nothing compared to “back in the day.”

I’m not saying hockey is too soft or anything like that....I’m just saying that the game has cleaned up tremendously and therefore I don’t necessarily agree that the “violence” is what’s causing registration numbers to drop.

I’d argue it’s almost 100% due to rep hockey costing 5-10k a season in urban centres where people these days don’t have a ton of disposable income

not arguing that hockey for kids today isn't more safe than "back in the day" just saying that parents these days are more cognizant of medical ramifications and are more precautionary

and yes; the cost of hockey being too high for sure. I remember the interview where Stamkos' father started his own hockey team to make sure the kids got good experience (he had stamkos, tavares, etc... on the team) because he saw that other so called hockey coaches were all about money and less about kids learning and having fun

Imagine posting about how soft a team is moments after a Canadian lays out a Russian.

Fantastic timing.
In comparison to other Canadian teams this team absolutely is soft, especially on North American ice.

Soft doesn’t mean it’s bad at ice hockey or going to lose. One hit doesn’t change anything.

Marchand will always be Marchand too
But Comtois hasn't even played a full season. Yes this behavior is absolutely shitty and I want him to stop but he's not some lost cause.

In any case it was clearly a mistake to give him the "C" for this tournament. That's not what you want to see your captain doing.

Any Habs fans know if Suzuki is that careless with his stick regularly? It seems like a problem for him that he needs to clean up before he gets to the NHL.

Our PK baffles me....it seems we start playing a box, then end up in a diamond, then back to a box.

I can’t tell if this is by design or not
