GDT: WJC Finland - Canada, Dec 26, 2023

Blatantly obvious that country's have caught up to us. We need to figure it out and get some skill this north american style won't cut it
Relax… lol
Canada has won the last 2 tournaments. As well as 3 of the last 4 and 4 of the last 6.
We are missing Bedard, Fantilli, Wright and others who are injured. And we are still winning right now.

It’s a little early to be predicting our demise before the first game is half over.

We must win EVERY tournament lol. This is our sport

Concerns about the Canadian blueline seem well founded right now. They're alright in their own zone but their skating is largely meh and they're lacking a couple puck movers. Mateychuk is gonna play big minutes and he's the only guy (right now) that I trust to efficiently get the puck up the ice.

With that said, it's early, it's big ice, and Rousseau looks as comfortable as he does in the Q. The forward group has plenty of depth and will need to overwhelm teams that way.

I don't think it's as bleak as you say. Canada isn't really playing a NA style. They are forcing the middle. There is no cycle, not sustained anyway. Just one and dones because the Finland D is playing deep and tight.

HOWEVER the program of excellence needs to adapt. The US system of developing a team through the ages and keeping them together is paying off very well. Our system of just scouting the CHL and putting 23 players together is showing its age. Remember other programs are built to counter the program of excellence. I was worried about goaltending and still kind of am. I think our Forwards and D are fine provided they adapt to what happens on the ice when they aren't in control.

A lot of the good Canadians who are eligible are in the NHL/AHL or injured...

NHL: Bedard, Fantilli, Benson, Korchinksi
AHL: Wright
Injured: Molendyk, Luneau

The team would be 40% different with all eligible players available.
I'm aware. Still not liking what I'm seeing but it's early
