But then the Czechs can't medal. We are about 2 teams being quarantined from a bronze right now!lol.

Joke aside... Meh. Don't like it. But I guarantee a lot more Canadians would watch if this happened then the current euro version.

I'd love to see what the team China junior team looks like in a pool with US and Canada?

Also... Why is it okay for Canada/US to send their best kids (and women) but not their best men?

I'll see myself out...

It is of course important that the WJC is still held, otherwise how can the upcoming draft be marketed and you don't have to argue why euro pros should participate while NA based shouldn't and the european leagues can also play the matches postponed due to c19. the only question i have is the field of participants. what about latvia and denmark would they also be allowed to participate? I know it doesn't interest anyone, it's only about USA/Canada, but these countries would actually have qualified for the tournament?

I prefer WJC during Olympics, not at Olympics. WOG have their own qualification cycle and I see no reason why players who won an Olympic spot for their countries should loose it, only to make a room to U20 players.
I get what you're saying, but one could also argue that these players win/lose their spots based on the NHL going/not going in many cases (especially teams like Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden, and Russia). In this case they wouldn't be losing it due to a sudden increase in talent, but a potential increase in entertainment value. This is as core to the Olympics as being the best in the world, and is a big part of the reason that diving is on TV but shotput isn't, or why a nation will broadcast their athletes in less meaningful matches rather than other country's athletes going for gold, where the broadcasting nation might not be competing.

I can only speak for myself, but I'd care more if the WJC, this Olympics, formed the basis for the Olympic Men's Hockey. They could even treat it like Olympics Soccer, and allow a few over-agers per team.

countries that qualify automatically have no such a dilemma then countries who had to secure their spot through qualifications, In case of Slovakia, NHLers refused to play in qualification so the spot was won solely by euro-based players. Wouldn’t take ANY nhl-er even if they were svalaible.

I agree; it wouldn't be fair in many ways and those players would deserve better. It also wouldn't be the first time athletes have fought and bled to advance their team into a position where they're replaced by others for the big dance.

It's a great idea but... if it's safe enough for kids to go to China, why is it not safe for grownups?
I do not assume that the immune system of an ice hockey player is significantly weaker than that of a curler, skier, speed skater, etc. ...

Well even if these guys know they will be only used for qualifying but replaced by NHLers they still have plenty to play for - their own joy & pleasure, for their colours etc. Just feel it’s not fair. If these guys are good enough to qualify they are also good enough to play on a big stage, if not their effort there would be no big stage for neither them nor NHLers. In life, you have to give to get and in this particular case, NHLers would be just takers.

I want two tournaments and I don’t think it’s at all an option to replace mens team with juniors … pointless gimmick that benefits nhl mostly. I want khl and european players.

No. Just make another EHT olympics and continue with WJC next summer. The best thing about EHT olympics is that almost everybody has a chance, not just Canada.

IIHF deemed it unsafe for players to play and gather to finish the tournament. 6 weeks later they are going to allow same players to do it all again, doubt it but maybe. Pretty sure cold like symptoms will exist in February also.
