Its a great thing to have your top skilled players be able to go in the trenches.

Panthers are a good example of this. Top skill that go along with willingness to get dirty. They don't have any Ryan Reaves types because they got guys who can play top mins AND take care of things. When the playoffs roll around, those are the guys you want.
At the same time their most important player, the kind that you pick in the top 3, is a Lady Byng winner.

You’re missing his point. Everyone here would take a highly skilled player who can box. His point was that there are certain posters who would take a bottom 6 ceiling boxer over a non-physical 100 point player at 3rd overall.

Sounds like what certain GM's would prefer as well...

Yup - rugged high end players are what we should be coveting but in the absence of those I’d prefer we hone in on the high end part- not the rugged part. At least with our top picks

i'd be happy with silayev, lindstrom, or dickinson
I counted Silayev out of my top10 months ago so I would not be a fan. I get that he might fit the team's future D core but he is not on the level of any of the other prospects and it's too much of a gamble.

Dickinson is a completely different story, he is IMO the most ready defenseman and actually my first D choice but not ahead of Lindstrom or Demidov. However, I also think it's safe to exclude Demidov from Ducks speculation.

Maybe I'm just remembering what a vocal minority posts but has the board come around to perhaps actually drafting a forward? Maybe it's the Chicago rumours, idk.

Anyway, regarding Cayden Lindstrom:

With Lindstrom's health perhaps not being a concern after all I think we are one of the teams most intrested in him. His build and skill combo is the closest thing to a Leo Carlsson of this draft. He has some catching up to do from his past development and the injury so I predict he still has a couple of leaps to take before the NHL.

The biggest reason why the scales tilt towards Lindstrom is the meanness. We have big boys coming up in Cutter, Gaucher and Myatovic. While they all show a lot of character, they're more of the competitive kind than flat out violent kind.

I didn't see this posted here yet... Pronman's list of where the players from the 2023 and 2024 draft classes would rank:

1. Bedard

2. Celebrini
3. Fantilli
4. Carlsson

5. Levshunov
6. Michkov

7. Silayev
8. Buium
9. Smith
10. Demidov

He goes to 20 players.

And larionov says his game reminds him of Lidstrom. I’m sold.

I was already onboard with him but this article made it even easier to imagine this guy turning into the best defensive defenseman in the game. His priorities all seem in line for it.

Also I like this quote, some perspective on why he hasnt shown as much flash as other d-men playing in lesser leagues.

"When I was younger, I was always too active during games, jumping into a rush and helping forwards too much," Silayev said. "[Larionov] has helped me understand the importance of solid defensive play. I like it, too, since I'm learning new approaches."

It also sounds like he wants to come over after his fulfilled the remaining two years of his contract.

From the article:

“Anton understands the game, and to me, if he ends up giving you offense, that’s a bonus,” TSN resident director of scouting, NHL analyst and former NHL general manager Craig Button said. “But at the end of it all, if he gives you that really strong pillar, that’s what you’re looking for. I don't see him as a top-pair defenseman, but certainly as a clear-number No. 3 who can anchor a second pair along the blue line.

From the article:
I mean, didn’t Button rank him 16th and Levshunov 7th? Clearly he’s not very high on Silayev, yet still thinks he can be a #3 that can anchor the second line. I’d take that at third in a relatively “weak” draft. I don’t pay much attention to most media lists, but did he make his list wildly off the consensus to drive engagement?

He also said that would be ultimately up to his team that drafts him, and his family. At least it sounded like that. But yes he currently has a contract. As of know his plan is to complete it.

If he progresses well next season he may get bought out of his contract after his D+1, which is what I think will happen with him.

I've never taken Button's draft lists seriously.

Getting a guy who tops out as a 3D is a massive miss at 3rd overall.
I think the allure, which I agree with, is that if he hits his ceiling he’s a 1 of 1 in the league. Personally I’d gamble, but there’s a reason I work in HVAC and am not a GM. It’s definitely not because I make savvy business decisions.

Yeah 3D is like the 10-15 pick IMO.

Yeah when you’re picking 3 there should be I think a reasonable chance that that player if the best player in your build even if it’s not the inside track. I’m iffy on that being a defense first dman even with silayevs size and skating
