I hate that we didn't trade up for Zadina or take Wahlstrom, but I don't think Kravtsov is a bad pick.

It's just that, like Lias Andersson last year, I don't think he's the best pick. I don't understand why this organization has to go off the reservation so often in the first round. It's like they are trying to outsmart people.

But they need to take a look and realize that their track record of doing this in the first round sucks, and that if they went with convention they'd be much better off, historically. Tarasenko or Fowler over McIlrath. Mittlestadt over Andersson. Probably Walhstrom over Kravtsov.

Stop getting cute, Gordie Clark and Jeff Gorton.

I don't think picks like Kravtsov are "going off the reservation." I just think it's the differences in rankings that exist throughout all the teams.

Maybe, and it's just a guees, but maybe they think he'll be a better player than Walhstrom....
I'm sure they do. But still don't know why. Let's not get into that worm hole though. About I'm sure they like X better than Y. We know where that ends up.

I screamed like a little bitch when we didn’t draft Wahlstrom.

Then after I calmed down a bit, I whined like a bigger bitch that we passed on Dobson.

Then, after the Islanders drafted both those guys, I wanted to punch a baby unicorn in the Jejunum.

This literally happens, Every. Single. Year.

I overreact because in the fairytale world I live in, I’m a better scout than the PROS in our organization.

I was high on Kravtsov. Not as high as the two ****face villains the Isles took. But high enough where I’m happy with the pick.

Chytil + Kravtsov. Big, fast, skilled, and smart. If those two guys pan out, they’re going to be a nightmare to defend against.

Boo Nieves must be salivating at the idea of centering those guys on the 1st line.

very much wanted Dobson, thrilled if we got Wahlstrom then this happened. Trusting the Rangers scouting on this one. Question I have is why did we leave Veleno on the board with the two late 1sr rounders.

I dont dislike Kravtsov. He checks off a lot of boxes. I still dont know that he is a better prospect than Wahlstrom. He certainly was not rated as such by many before the pick happened
I think he had less of an opportunity to show what he’s got than Wahlstrom playing 9 minutes a night in a checking role on a non-SKA/CSKA team, everyone got to see it with his KHL playoff run, but the panel was talking about how teams also got to see him play really well in the VHL during the Olympics, and just looking at eliteprospects he’s also over a PPG in the MHL playoffs for his career. I think potential production wise they could be decently close in goals with Kravtsov having more assists

This ones alright I guess. Looks like he has pretty quick hands, and a good release on his shot, judging from some of those five hole goals.

There really is no leeway. If the 9tj pick is not a star player then Gorton must be fired. That pick is way to valuable to ducks up.

Sure. Kravtsov fits the Rangers profile much like Andersson and Chytil did. Playing against men. Good performances in the playoffs. Its fine a good. I just would have been more comfortable with Wahlstrom. I think Kravtsov is talented and I wish him the best.

There were plenty of people here saying McIlrath was gonna bust at 10 and they were right. Nothing that happened tonight shouldn’t suggest that the Rangers know what they are doing in the draft. They haven’t drafted an elite player since lwetchy

Kid looks like one of those Gaborik types that just knows where to stand, and can fire it accordingly. I'm very happy. No predicted reach here.

1 good or bad pick won’t be the deciding factor with Gorts’s job security.

In addition to that, Gorts isn’t the only person responsible for that pick. This isn’t a fantasy league where you’re going to war alone. There are many people in this organization that played a big role with this pick.

Do me a favor when you’re done crying. Research how many star players were drafted 9th overall the last 2 decades.

If every team drafts a star player at 9, that must mean picks 1-8 are also star players.

Seems kind of high when you actually think about that for a sec, no................? 9 star players drafted every year....?

:skeptic:

You can't bust if you never had potential to be anything. Almost everyone here knew McIlrath was a disaster pick the second it happened.

You can't draft an elite player without swinging for the fences. Thats exactly what we did tonight. I'm okay with it.

Maybe. Last year everyone was complaining about taking Lias at 7, he was too safe.
Lias was the safe pick. We get at least one NHLer out of the first round. Chytil was the swing, and it looks like we hit on it. He's been ranked as a top 10 prospect in the league. Tonight we went out swinging. If we hit a homer on any of these 3, it will be a big success.

Didn’t mean to imply I dislike Lias. I like both the picks, from what I’ve seen (It’s not all that much).

Outside of McIlrath they haven't drafted high enough. Stepan, Miller, Skjei and co tells me all I need to know about Clark.

Mitttestadt isn’t even proven better than Andersson yet, let alone anything like the gap between McIlrath and Tarasenko. Andersson has a great season last year imo.

Also they got Chytil when nobody saw it coming just last year.
