To be honest I doubt any SHL team would be interested unless he finishes the season like he did last season or better. I think it would be best for him to stay in Leksand and get a lot of ice time.

He has one goal and three assists in 45 games in Sweden. I asked Fenton about the young defenseman last month and he said, “We need him to start to add more offense to his game. He’s complacent with the way he’s been playing right now, but as a 19-year-old, our guys are talking about the progress that he’s made and they’re very happy with it.” It would not surprise if the Wild sign him soon and even consider bringing him over to Iowa next season so they could play a role in his development.

"A 1st round pick" is pretty broad. The 12th overall is different from the 24th is different from the 30th; a forward's developmental curve is different from a defenseman's.

If he steps into the lineup at "B" level at 23 years old vs. a "C" level at 21/22, does it really make much of a difference?

I'm not sure what you mean by "B" and "C" level, but Anybody on that career path isn't stepping into the top 4. If the kid ends up being a Seeler or Pateryn type of player? That's not the end of the world, but it isn't really what you're hoping for out of the 1st round.

I never specified what pair he was on when you said his (hypothetical) developmental path was "unacceptable".

So, we rather draft another Phillips or maybe a Portier or a Joe Morrow? Or a Jensen? Late 1st round picks can be hard to select. Getting a useful NHL player is a boon.
