Ah, the national team. I thought you were just referring to the SuperElit team. Did the national team stats just get added?
thanks for keeping us updatedFilip picked up an assist in tonight's game and a penalty for fighting (more like gloves on wrestling) after his defense partner got checked from behind into the boards.
2 points in 2 games now, next game is on Wednesday make sure you are ready with the 4th point thread.Damn. Didn't have to time to make a 3rd point thread.
Thanks for the updates. Do you see Fjo staying in alssvenskan next year or could he move up to the SHL. Coming to NA to play in the AHL?Filip's defensive partner Calle Själin got checked into the boards and is out with a concussion. Will be interesting to see what will happen now with a new partner, at least tonight, Minnesota born Kevin Schulze.
To be honest I doubt any SHL team would be interested unless he finishes the season like he did last season or better. I think it would be best for him to stay in Leksand and get a lot of ice time.
As if on cue, from Russo's mailbag...2019-20: Allsvenskan (19 yo)
2020-21: SHL
2021-22: SHL
2022-23: SHL/AHL
2023-24: NHL (23 yo)
Not a completely horrid developmental path, if that's what it takes.
Joe F.: What’s the status with last year’s first-round pick, Filip Johansson?
He has one goal and three assists in 45 games in Sweden. I asked Fenton about the young defenseman last month and he said, “We need him to start to add more offense to his game. He’s complacent with the way he’s been playing right now, but as a 19-year-old, our guys are talking about the progress that he’s made and they’re very happy with it.” It would not surprise if the Wild sign him soon and even consider bringing him over to Iowa next season so they could play a role in his development.
Yeah, that's not close to acceptable for a 1st round pick.2019-20: Allsvenskan (19 yo)

Yeah, that's not close to acceptable for a 1st round pick.
I'm not sure what you mean by "B" and "C" level, but Anybody on that career path isn't stepping into the top 4. If the kid ends up being a Seeler or Pateryn type of player? That's not the end of the world, but it isn't really what you're hoping for out of the 1st round."A 1st round pick" is pretty broad. The 12th overall is different from the 24th is different from the 30th; a forward's developmental curve is different from a defenseman's.
If he steps into the lineup at "B" level at 23 years old vs. a "C" level at 21/22, does it really make much of a difference?

I don't see much of a difference if you're waiting 5 years post draft."Above average" vs. "average" wherever they're initially put into the lineup.

Isn't his ceiling "average"? What are the odds he even makes it to that?
If all he ever becomes is an average 3rd pair player, then using a 1st on him was a bad idea.Sort of my initial point.
Does playing at 21 vs. playing at 23 matter much if the end result is a useful NHL player?
