Agreed, it's a nice deep draft, I really hope the pick isn't moved at this point. Let's see, a nice 10 spot jump would be so sweet

Hextall would have been looking for another Petry in the off season...
Oh but Jeff Petry's great, bud. He's just the oldest and most expensive guy on the blueline and provides, uhhh, well, nothing special really.

I know, he has been on the decline now for a couple seasons, got to watch him closely here in montreal. People still can't believe they got Matheson for him here
I don't really care about Matheson all that much either. I just didn't really want Petry, and with that being my baseline for expectations, I was still pretty underwhelmed with the guy. At least Matheson was fun to watch, albeit a squirrely idiot on any given shift. Petry's just another dude out there.

The blueline's no different than when Marino and Matheson were here, tbh. They're just as weak around the net and in the corners, weak defensively and nothing special offensively.

Since we don’t even know who the GM is right now the obvious choice to me is just take the best player available.

Meaning you can send a real life donkey to the stage and they couldn’t mess the pick up.

We can’t even trade it before knowing what this GM track record is…

A lot of ifs going on right now for the Penguins. But one good thing is at least they’ll know all the players going into the draft and especially coming out of it. Get to scout these guys for awhile at the min.

As of date: BPA

I once heard him try to order his fries on the side.
He eats fries? Bust.

I think this is where Granlund would come in hand, helping Barlow soak up some knowledge in what to do and what not do (if Granlund doesn’t bounce back and regain form) giving this up and comer much needed winger guidances.

Would Sullivan allow this second line? If not, shame on him. Someone like Carolina would post this line in a heartbeat.

If anything it’s worth a try: because if it fails it tells other prospects they have a chance at making it just by simply well, given the chance. And that is where Sullivan has failed. You’d think after the Jake arrival he’d be more willing to play young guns.

I see a Seth Jarvis at 14. But will he be played in this era?

wow the rankings are all over the place. one has will smith at 5 another 19 barlow at 11 another 28
edit; normally that means that everyone is very close. But that far of a spread is nuts.

Without googling it, which player in the poll is this;

“combination of a lethal shot and blossoming two-way play should pave a path forward for him to become a legitimate second line center in the NHL. His compete level and defensive play will lead him to the NHL; his offense will determine how high up his team’s depth chart he’ll climb. He should also develop into a player that logs a lot of minutes on both the power play and the penalty kill.”

That’s what I’m seeing too and kind of the motivator behind this thread. Last year it was easy. I wanted Yurov or Rutger. This year it’s all over the place with options.

I know nothing about this player but I know you need mustaches likes that to win in the NHL.

Pittsburghish
it will be pretty much up to the scouts. imo unless the new guy comes with a photographic memory. and can remember all 100 of his old teams list.
Or, just save the spreadsheet to his personal computer.

This is why GMs poached from other teams usually have to sit out the draft.

How good is Brayden Yager?

Yager has excellent crossovers. He nets excellent acceleration with his crossovers and then adds to his speed with power stride extensions. His power stride extensions allow him to be a strong north-south skater and he can pair that with his crossovers to quickly change up his lane with pressure comes into play.

Btw, we got the 13 overall pick too.

Traded away Petry to Buffalo. And opened up 6 mil.

Had to do something since we are GM-less.

13 and 14 for Michkov?

Or keep them and draft Reinbacher to replace Petry and Yager/insert the countless of forwards available. Plus 6 mil to bring over Bertuzzi. I say keep since two lottery picks is steep and I like Reinbacher. Gets us back in the prospect mix as well.

In all seriousness, I thought they only shared a first name but Brayden Yager plays for Moose Jaw Warriors as well, like Point did. Interesting. Wonder if they have anything else in common.

The whole point of this season was to get a good draft pick, so here we are hope we make the most of it. Wish we kept our second rounder. We don't have a third rounder in this draft either we have the devil's, which is near the very end of that round. Hopefully we can make a move and get another high draft pick.

so what your saying is that you haven't seen him, your just going on numbers. ok
I have. I'm just saying more than just Ritchie has lower quality linemates.

Yeah, I'm just saying, big 2-way Euro centers playing in Scandinavia are projects, usually mid-to-late 1st rounders. I wouldn't hate Dvorský as a pick by any means, I rather like him in some ways, I just don't see him as a top 10 pick like MacKenzie seems to. What is intriguing about him is his shot, in particular. We could really use that on our special teams, and I like the idea of getting him time in the top 9, whether it'd be filling in on L2 or centering L3.

I wouldn't trade up to get him, I guess is what I'm saying, but I would sleep well if we picked him at 14OA.
He's a player that could go anywhere between like 8 and 15 I would say.

Trade it and make the team eat our cap dumps.

Hell even if we landed top 10...Trade the pick.

The Red Wings have had FOURTEEN first rounders since their last cup run/relevance. Almost double that number of 2nd rounders. So many here complain about our prospect pool but half the time it's our depth picks that have worked out. Almost a crap shoot outside of the locks. It's hindsight that has people going back to the store to buy the scratch offs.

You ain't building a contender by holding this pick and wasting the last few seasons of your awesome top 2 Cs and top D. Just no.

absolutely disagree with this premise! You've lost all sense of reality and reason. Just because other teams didn't draft well doesn't mean we are going to end up in the same predicament. Sid and Geno had very good years and they still couldn't win. To try and resurrect them at their age is just insanity! You need to learn that the party is over. And if you don't learn that now, then the rebuild will take even longer. The last few seasons of The Sid and Geno era are already gone. They ain't going to do s***! And to be clear they haven't done s*** for 5 years running.

I can't believe after the last five f****** years that some of you are holding on to this f****** core! How many years do they have to lose in the first round, or miss the playoffs all together for you guys to get the f****** message?
